Yeah, I had Tim's AATCO Transmission do it, they're on TV Hwy and I live out this way so it seemed to make sense taking it to them. Tim runs the shop and seems to know what he is talking about. I had them rebuild it although you can have them slap in a remanufactured unit if you want. I didn't think they were too expensive. At first I was worried because it was leaking transmission fluid after the rebuild but I had them relocate the vent (a common modification) and they spliced into the transfer case vent. This somehow caused a siphon effect and was the source of the leak. When I took it back, they routed the vents separately and now it works fine, no more leaks. The real drag of it all was I just had the transfer case replaced (with an Atlas) over at Leonard's Off-Road and a month later the transmission needed to be rebuilt. Had I known the transmission was going to give out, it would have been cheaper to do both the same time. Nothing says loving like doing the same work twice....and paying for it twice.

The only 3rd party that has touched my Jeep is Leonard and that's when he regeared my diffs and installed my TrueTrac limited slip. I've heard a lot of good reviews about Aloha Auto Center, I believe the owner has a CJ. I don't have any direct experience with them though. Thanks for the info.

Crane Guy here, hey guys I'm having friends flying in Saturday and they want to head towards Mt. Hood, so I'm going to Lolo Pass and hopefully all the way to Lost Lake. It will be me and another JK, and Josh Wobig from Four Wheel Parts, a Samurai, and a possible YJ. Sorry for baling last minute! Hopefully you guys will do a 180 and head out to Lolo pass? We will be meeting at the Ranger Station in Rhododendron, time is not set in stone yet. I will post time Saturday AM. I hope you can make it skyjeeper & tj islander and everyone else. There should be more snow there which means more fun! ;-) sorry again for the last minute change! MERRY CHRISTMAS everyone!

Aloha Crane Guy

The wife has me Christmas shopping on Saturday, I would rather wheel though. But I've put shopping off long enough and with Christmas around the corner - I need to make her happy so that everyone's happy .

Do we still have a group headed to TSF 12/23 (this Sunday), meeting at North Plains Chevron at 8:00?

I plan on going if this run is still in the works.

Gee that's too bad Crane Guy, I was hoping you could make it, that way I can stand on your front bumper and look for my Jeep when I lose it in a snow drift. Well, we've already committed to TSF for the 23rd. But luckily there's plenty of time left in winter to make it out again, I am itching myself to check out Lolo Pass, I hear it is fun with snow. Just have to drive east a bit. We'll have to get together some other time, until then, happy holidays!
As for everyone else, yes, I too plan on seeing you all at the Chevron North Plains, 8AM. If you need directions, I put them on the other forum,
tsf/ladee dec 23

but if this link does not work, go west on US 26 to exit 57. It's the NW Glencoe Road Exit, turn right and head north, the Chevron is immediately on your left and will have a bunch of Wranglers in the lot, and a couple of XJ's too if Island's friends make it. You can even see the gas station on Google Maps if you search "North Plains Chevron", but you will also find "North Plains Chevron Robbery"....yikes. Not sure what that's all about....

I am not the captain of this event but since I have no idea where everyone is coming from, I will leave my CB "on air" on Channel 23 (the day) in case some of you are having trouble with roads/traffic. I have no idea how far out I can capture radio traffic, but just drop a line and we will either wait, or you can catch up when we hit the road. If I can't pick you up at all, you're probably too far away and out of luck. I am thinking we start out shortly after 8 since again, I have no idea how bad the roads will be driving out and would like to make most of the day.

Again, sorry Scooby that you can't make it since this was your posted event......keep us posted on the tranny, and we'll head out with you when you're up and running....

Happy Holidays-

We're back!

So, we made it back from TSF after snow-wheeling today. It was my first and definitely a different experience. I was only able to take a few photographs since I was too busy blazing a trail in the lead , but here are a couple of pics, mainly of "2013-JKU-PDX" since he was behind me. I have video of us going up Powerline but I have to edit it and will probably be up tomorrow.
Hopefully the guys who headed up Lolo Pass made it back safely, can't imagine the snow up at that altitude given the snow we saw today.
Sorry you had to leave early Chad, we got stuck on Powerline with the another group coming from the opposite direction and had to turn one of them around with my winch. Luckily we all got out, just took some time.

Well Scoobyjeep, what's the verdict on your tranny? Do you want to post some dates in January so you can try and head up again?

skjeeper - Thanks for posting these! Great shots. Can't wait to see the video.

I had a blast today despite losing my Hi Lift jack mount (tree limb), and enjoyed meeting everyone.

skjeeper, mahalo for taking point/lead yesterday. I had a great time . Looking forward to future runs .

Unfortunately, the run didn't magically remove the rattle underneath my jeep . However I did manage to skew my steering wheel 45° counterclockwise, so when I'm going straight, my steering wheel looks like it's taking a slight left. I think I impacted my draglink on the same root that one of the XJ's sliced his sidewall on - it was a hard hit since I wasn't expecting it .

SO my project for today after work, is to realign my steering wheel back to center; fortunately, this is an easy adjustment.

Some Pics From Yesterday's Run at TSF

I thought I'd add a few more pics from yesterday. Some were taken with a crappy cell phone, so I apologize in advance.

Nice pics, it was fun breaking in the snow on that particular trail.

Sweet pics!

Cool pics man! I finally finished the video this morning, I only took one video clip the whole day, I guess I was too busy focusing on staying on the road and taking directions from everyone else.

Here's the You Tube link with everyone following IslandTJ up Powerline.

12 23 12 TSF - YouTube

My personal fave is the "D'OH moment" when I oversteer at 6:34 in the video while trying to enter the trail-head. I almost drove into the ditch after everyone else had already gone up. Luckily I saved myself the embarrassment.

Until next time-

Merry Christmas Everyone!!!

Went out, saw the lights downtown Portland. Decided to go see my old house where I was born at on Davis St. Found Mitigation Brewery and bought a growler and a couple of holiday bottles. Went and saw my grandma's old house. Started to come home on I5 saw Mark (N2Jeepn) driving. Pulled alongside and waved, to wish him Merry XMas, but wouldn't look over. Any way Merry Christmas everyone, and lets bring in the New Year right!!

Very tempting... May have to break some other plans, but I'll probably try to make this one as well.

Hey CraneGuy, thanks for letting me know. I think I should be able to make this run too. It's not on the forum, can any Jeeper show up? I don't want to show up uninvited.....

Anyhow, I'll plan on going, see you there, and if I don't know the secret password, I'll go wherever I want since that's what a Jeep is for.

all the best, happy new year!
