Correction for 3-2-13 Run

Okay, so when I posted this informal run invite I put the date and link as:

TSF Run 3-2-2012

When in reality, it's 3-2-13. I hope everyone caught that error since I obviously didn't. It's not like we are trying to drive back in time through the TSF. Anyhow, people are still welcome to come along this year.

I m smrt-

Tahuya State Forest 4x4 Loop Trail

This is an all day run to Tahuya State Forest. Tahuya State Forest is a 23,000-acre working forest located on the southeastern portion of the Hood Canal west of Belfair Washington in Mason County. This popular year-round destination area attracts more than 200,000 recreational users each year. Tahuya offers recreation opportunities for a variety of activities. We will be running the 6.7 mile 4x4 loop trail, it is rated easy. We will be meeting local wrangler forum members, who know the area and trail. They will be with us to show us the different parts of the trail and spurs of the trail.

Discover Pass is “REQUIRED” and enforced at the State forest.

We will meet at the Safeway located in Belfair Washington.

Safeway
23961 NE State Route 3
Belfair, Washington 98528

Gather: 0930 am
Leave: 1000 am

Portland Oregon (I-5 Bridge) to Belfair Washington, 147 miles about 2.5 hours driving time.
I-5 North to Exit 104 the Highway 101 exit (104 miles)
101 east to Shelton, WA (17.1 miles)
Shelton, WA to Belfair, WA north on Highway 3 (26.3 miles)
Arrive at the Belfair Safeway

We will have a caravan for those that are driving up and back on the same day. There are some going up the night before and staying at a motel or camping. There may be some staying up there on Saturday night after the run.

For those that are caravanning up, we will meet before 7am at the Gee Creek Rest Area (I-5 NB Washington exit MP11 just north of the I-5 / I-205 junction) and leave at 7am sharp as we need to be in Belfair, WA by 9:30 am. Make sure you have a full tank of before arriving. We will make a stop at the Scatter Creek Rest Area MP 90 north of Centralia, WA.

This is a long day so have yourself and your vehicle prepared for the day. It is over a 300 mile round trip depending on where you are coming from. The same day drivers will be at least 12 hours out and about, 3hrs drive up 6 hours 4x4ing and 3hrs drive home depending on stops. Belfair Safeway has gasoline, Starbucks, rest rooms, and food for the day. Make sure you bring water, food, snacks, money, and dress for the changing weather.

BTW: Thank you for agreeing to be our trail guide expert for the day. It is ALWAYS nice to have someone who has run the trail and know the area.

Out of curiosity, does the Tahuya OHV trail have deep water technical portions e.g. tank traps, deep mud runs, or water crossings?

These are the type of conditions that I'm concerned with for my 32RH automatic transmission. I have the 32RH with the breather vent located within the transmission bellhousing and is easily subjected to water contamination.

Great question. Talking to Bob K (nwbronco) yes there is, however, there is ways around them or ways to stay away from them.

Mud lake is deep, but can be skirted easily. There are more mud holes on the lower end. They are all easily skirted. There is a few tight turns on the lower half. So brush rubbing. There is a few mollies that you have to go through on the south loop. The rest on the south loop can be by-passed. My daughter takes her '04TJ around out there. She's running 31's and LJ springs.

Mud lake.

V-notch. more of an off camber jaunt now..

Me failing on Yellow Jacket on a muddy day...

Anne on the mollies, south loop.

Glad to do it Mark. Folks down your way have always been cordial when we go to Tillamook. We have good friends down there.

Ken, there are by-passes around all the water pits. Or, you can skirt the edge of them.
