There will be no privacy code. As far as channel goes, we will decide at the Chevron that morning. Probably channel 4, as in "4x4". We will probably need an alternative frequency too in case there is static or interference. We will see how many people have FRS radios vs. CB's as well. BTW, I have an extra FRS radio if someone needs it.

See you all then

So, here's the latest head count as far as I can see, and uhh... wow...

the "count-me-ins"

FireMike +1

MojoMark
Chevymad

Cmattp
Agaard +1

ABC Was Here

And the "maybe-I-am-in"
Electricfoot
Smellsfishy
DrHolliday
Rusty1
JSears
Cold

Wow, clearly we will be breaking up into groups that Sunday morning at the Chevron. Two, maybe even three groups. Looks like Jeeps will be in full force in the Tillamook State Forest that Sunday. Those pesty Toyotas better run for cover. Just kidding. I would certainly appreciate volunteers for leaders/tailgunners for the other groups, otherwise we will be an enormous wad of Jeep monogrammed sheet metal unable to move anywhere in the park easily. I'll have extra sign-in sheets for those groups too. I'll take the newbie and intermediate group.
I'm sure more details will arise as the date gets closer....

see you all soon

Important 4-28-13 Run Information

There are a lot of people who are wanting to head out next weekend on Sunday April 28th. I think that is great, but it does create a few challenges, so please read on.

Date of Run: Sunday April 28th.
Meeting Place: North Plains Chevron, take US 26 West past Hillsboro and look for exit #57, turn right and you will see it on the left. Gas up and meet in the parking lot in the back so we don't clog the lot in the front.
Time: Be at the Chevron between 8-815. We will be on the road by 830AM, I will be leaving at 0830 sharp so please arrive ahead and sign in. Plan on spending most of the day there, we should be done late afternoon.
What to bring: Food/lunch, water to drink or rinse mud from your hands in case you get dirty, valid ATV permit, air compressor, CB or FRS radio if you have it, camera for the fond memories.

That's the basics, now for the tough part. Since there are so many people, we will have to break up into groups. I would greatly appreciate any volunteers for leader/tail-gunner for the advanced group, or those who wanna take on Rocky Uphill, Firebreak 5, etc. Most of you guys know your way around, and have enough experience/skill to find a way around even if you didn't know. I think many of you should be able to team up in a small group which should be safer in case someone gets stuck. I'd love to go, but I had my fill of rocks and mud on the April 21 run we just did. I will be taking the newbies and intermediate people and I am sure they will go ballistic if I try and take them through Rocky Uphill or Fire Break 5. I'm hoping to come across one of the advanced groups at FB5 on our way through and maybe you can show em' how it's done.
Having said that, I think I will still have everyone sign in, see who is breaking up into what groups, and then my group starting from West to East. The other groups can go East to West, or cut in at Lyda Camp Entrance off HWY 6. That should give the newbies/intermediates the following trail experiences:
Archers (most sections)
Hoodraiser (maybe)
Cedar Tree
Powerline
There are some areas we can go watch or try if some people in the group want to, like the first section of Firebreak 5 or Rock Garden, but I certainly won't pressure anyone do it if they don't want to, and the areas I am thinking of are really short with bypasses so people can get around these areas if they don't want to do them.
I was out there with some other guys on April 21, and it was muddy in some sections, (some more than others), and other sections were dry. Given the week of sun planned by the weatherman, it will probably be dusty in some areas too. Either way, I think everyone is going to get muddy and dusty by the end of the day.

I really look forward to it, but please be patient since there are so many people. I think if we have about three groups of six, or two larger groups, that will work just fine. This will depend on who shows up Sunday. If you have questions, please feel free to PM me on this forum.

See you all Sunday! (the 28th)

I'm not gunna make it. Found a couple joints in my suspension that need rebuilt. Ordered them Friday, but I won't have time to fix them before the run.

Hey Agaard, I just want to make sure we grab you on our way out. Whereabouts are we going to see you and your Yota' friend as we whiz by on Hwy 6?
I am thinking my group will be the newbie and intermediate wheelers' and we will be on Channel 28 (the day of the run), would it be easier if you were on Channel 28 too and just listened for us as we go by?

If you were planning on doing more advanced stuff, let me know and I will try and think of a way to get you in touch with the advanced group, they will probably be on a different channel.

See you then-

Okay great. We will have at least two groups, probably three. If you are wanting to do the more technical trails, Firebreak 5, Rocky Uphill, etc. I can put you in touch with the advanced group. Otherwise my group will be on the more "mild" trails. Just let me know so we don't leave you on the side of the road.

Welcome to the Wrangler Forum! You'll find lots of us Jeepers on this forum and plenty of info on all things about Wranglers and Oregon.

As far as the run this weekend goes, I am not sure if we have enough room now. There are so many people now, we are most likely going to split into three groups (which is a first for me) and I'm not sure I have a volunteer yet to lead the third group. I really hate to turn people away from runs, and that's part of my problem I think, I post open runs in advance, and everyone wants to go, and I mean EVERYONE!
Me and some other guys head out on a regular basis, like last weekend, on short notice, and I myself head out quite a bit alone when the weather is better. This forum is also averaging at least one run a month somewhere. Typically to Tillamook, but several other places too. Again, I really hate to turn people away now, but we have a lot already..... I promise I can make it up to you and your friends next month....

My apologies-

Aloha all, I will volunteer to lead a group .

skjeeper, has been gracious to coordinate this run and lead the beginning to intermediate group. For those who are interested in the Black Diamond trails, I am more than open to lead that group.

Help Wanted- Inquire on this thread

Hey gang, so I counted up the numbers again, and as of now, there are 23 rigs coming along on Sunday. While this is really cool, it will really blow if we can't find a third person willing to lead a group, either beginner or advanced. I honestly didn't expect this many people wanted to have fun, let alone pay attention to this thread.
If we don't have a third leader, we will have basically two groups of 11-12 rigs moving like two turtle herds through Tillamook, not to mention how tough it will be to turn around/pull over in case someone else meets us going the other way on the trail. I still want everyone to have fun, so if someone is willing to lead, I would really appreciate it. I'd even be willing to pay for your gas at the Chevron that morning. (just the leader, I'd go broke if I had to gas up your whole group.) Otherwise we will plan on breaking up into two groups...yikes.

Right now we have me leading the newbies and intermediates. Ken is willing to take the intermediate/advanced. The third group will probably be intermediates or just a mix of everyone else.

I will still continue to post runs in the future, so don't feel like this is the last run for eternity.

Aside from that, we are still on for take off Sunday AM, 0830

Final Update

As of Saturday morning, it now looks like we will have 26 rigs showing up with three trail leaders- Island TJ, Cmattp, and myself. I think we can make it work with three trail leaders, but a fourth trail leader would make the groups smaller and more efficient, so if you are willing Sunday AM, please speak up and your help will be appreciated. Honestly, I have never seen this many rigs show up at any informal forum event, ever.... If we stick with three groups, please be patient since the larger groups will take time to move around. As it stands, here are the groups:

Island TJ- leading intermediate/advanced
Cmattp- advanced
skjeeper- newbies/intermediate

Please be honest Sunday AM about what you want to do so you don't get in over your head and hold up the rest of your group. Likewise, those advanced, please be patient with those in your group if they aren't up to the same skill level as you or have a rig built up as yours. With the good weather, I predict there will be lots of other groups in TSF, some drinking, some not, so patience will be a virtue. As IslandTJ, Scoobyjeep, FireMike, and myself saw last weekend, some people in TSF will clog trails like Firebreak 5 trying to climb at full throttle, steering, and drinking at the same time. This will only blow....especially when your group is waiting to go ahead. (Of note, about two years ago a group of us were on Firebreak 5, and some fool got so impatient he came blasting through and the spotter for our group had to dive out of the way, and he subsequently broke his forearm/distal radius which needed plates and screws. So we don't need any of that.)

With that said, I have posted recommended items to bring. The weather forecast for Browns camp will be highs of 55-60 and a 20% chance for rain. We will be above that in altitude, so some drizzle, fog will be likely. (This will be a plus to keep the dust down)

I highly recommend everyone have either a CB or FRS radio for Sunday. This will make it easier to call out oncoming traffic/dirt bikers and such to avoid a collision and traffic jams. It will also help the groups move easier through the park. I think it would be cool to meet up for lunch somewhere if we happen to be in the area, but if we can't that's fine too.

A sign in/out will be mandatory just to make sure everyone in = everyone out. I can give the other groups a sign in sheet and pens. Not everyone is familiar with the park, even me at times, and not everyone has GPS. With so many people, I just want to make sure no one is left behind.

See you all at Chevron 0800-0815..
