I want to challenge myself and test my skillz. Not only my off road skillz but my building skills. I also want something that is designed to be off road only that gives me flexibility and no worriers about driving it home. She's going to be turned in to a buggy. But my YJ is my daily driver so I'm waiting on a little more money to buy and build ZJ before I get to building the buggy.

I'm looking for the v8 model cause it has the Dana 44a. I can put my lockers and gears from my yj in it. I'm going to pull an xj HP 30 Saturday so I can put my yj lockers and gears in to. Then put that in the zj. I found a 7in lift add flared I shouldn't have issues with 35's

This would be a GREAT opportunity for me to run "Empty Pockets" with it's new lift and tires on some trail. hey SKjeeper - since you said it's an open run would it be ok if I put the word out to a couple of friends?

Haha i dont blame ya!
I am looking at $60-75 for the day to come up from Corvallis, but I have never been up there in my own rig, so I figured i would make a trip of it.
Def won't be a every weekend occurrence for me...

I'm lucky, I live 20 minutes from browns camp lol. I still get all paranoid and fill my tank, I don't wanna run out of gas up there lol. Especially this time of the year.

Yeah, everyone should probably start the day with a full tank of gas- ergo the meeting at Chevron. That should last the day and get you home or to the Gales Creek Shell to top off, but no need for bringing accessory gas cans. I still don't know what the trail conditions will be like- so if you are coming, please BE PREPARED! As I look at the forecast, the nearest report at Lee's Camp, (elevation 700 ft) shows a 90% chance of snow Tuesday night (1-2 inches), and 100% chance of snow Wednesday (1-2 inches). This is coupled with a 70% chance rain Friday. Brown's camp is at ~1500 feet so I am going to assume the same at least, if not more snow/colder temps. I am also going to assume it will be semi-fresh snow atop frozen mud and ice. Please see the precautions and recommendations on what to bring posted earlier on this informal event. You don't have to light your credit card up at 4-wheel parts just for this event but bring food/water, warm clothes, a shovel if you have it, a recovery strap if you have it, and a positive attitude with an equal dose of patience and common sense. In the interest of safety, we'll take a look and count all the rigs at Chevron, head out, and depending on which end of the park we start, we'll designate a leader and a tailgunner. Everyone in will also be everyone out so no one is left behind or forgotten. With weather like this, I don't want to make the news- let alone locally embarrassing the Jeep name saying a Search and Rescue Crew driving Toyota FJ's and Hummer's came to save us. If you have a CB, that's great! If not, no big deal, if you have FRS radios (those are the "walkie talkies" families use on vacation and stuff), we can try and use those for the rigs with no CB or just put rigs with no radios in-between those that do. See you all at Chevron.

Let's go have fun!

I would like to also second the motion for patience! There sounds like there will be a good turn out for this run. So coupled with the number of rigs and trail conditions it could get interesting. I live out in Forest Grove and over the last couple days have had very icy conditions out the highway 6 area. So I just wanted to point out that the highway out there could be worse than the trails. Especially during the morning hours and pretty much when the sun goes down the conditions degrade rapidly. 911 is 45 mins out.......just sayin lol

Yeah, we will have to see. If a lot of rigs show up, I would entertain splitting the group into two separate groups, but would prefer to keep it as one for safety since I don't know everyone. At the meet up, if some people know one another and decide to form their own group, I am okay with that, but they would be "on their own". Not to scare anyone, but with so many rigs with different levels of experience, patience may be helpful and I am just trying to keep it safe and fun.

Likewise, I thought about changing the meet up time for later to let the sun help the roads melt, but with the precipitation headed this way, I don't know if that would help, and with this many rigs, leaving later would only mean leaving TSF so late to face the roads at night anyways. If people back out because of the roads or other concerns, I am certainly okay with that too, just let us know so we don't wait up for nothing at North Plains. For those that have tire chains, it may not be such a bad idea to throw em' in the back just in case. The benefit of so many rigs is that we will end up driving out there slower than the speed limit so we don't lose anyone.

best wishes-

The latest forecast now says just rain for Tues/Wed and into the weekend, but the moral of the story is- no one knows, not even the weatherman. I will try and keep up on the weather as we near Sunday.

Should this ever happen I say we tell them were camping and you'd better get out of here before you get stuck.
