This should be a nice muddy, sloppy day in the TSF. Let's meet at the North plains Chevron gas station at 8:30 am and depart around 8:45.

This is going to be a medium to advanced run, a good all terrain tire or mud terrain tire will be needed as well as recovery points front and rear.

For trails I'm thinking FB5, Rocky uphill, run Airplane hill backwards and go down the center section. I would like to end the day on Bates road. I open to other ideas as well.

I've been wanting to test out my new Currie tire deflator. I couldn't see trying it out in the driveway

This could be fun! I haven't unspooled my winch in awhile, actually all I've really done is install a new battery. :D It might make me want to buy a groover and remove some lugs, maybe.

Probably won't even air down until 10, then wheel - eat something and hope nothing breaks. Might be outta there by 3 pm?? Just my guess.

I would or would not miss class...

Can you get it for a couple days with no fenders? I drove mine around for a couple weeks with no fenders, that's when I got caught in the rain with no top, doors or fenders! Thankfully I had an extra shirt to keep the inside of the windshield clean.

Sounds good, the cb should be almost plug n play. You will need some wire and connectors, the ground is a bit short.

Looks like me, you and Island. My buddy with the sammy flopped his rig, and has to work.

Ok, it will be interesting to see how a jeep that turns like a semi-truck does off road... See you 8:30a at Chevron.

I was up there on Saturday, very icy. Saw a Bronco on a trailer, running what looked like 40's, turn around after maybe an hour. IDK if it was due to the ice or something else??? I also witnessed some people having trouble getting up the driveway into rogers from HWY 6. Just giving you guys a heads up.

That being said, My buddy and I had no trouble getting around in his jeep without airing down. Didn't run any trails though, and there was about an Inch of ice on the roads that see very little sun. Sun exposed roads were fine. Upper FB5 might be quite the challenge!!! The roads may be all thawed out by now, but can't say for sure.

If my jeep wasn't out of commission I would be up there with you guys!!! Take lots of pics so I can live vicariously through you guys lol.

There was a good bit of carnage today, one bent driveshaft, cut sidewall, plastic sidestep and a good bump on the head. This doesn't include the sideways recovery off of a very icy dirt road which had to be one of the most interesting recoveries I have ever witnessed. Most of the trails were in pretty decent shape but the main roads were pretty scary on the north side of the hills. I'm not sure about all of the trails we ran but the upper part of FB5 had some huge holes we opted to avoid, the rest of the trails were pretty fun! Those icy roads were terrifying, period.

Probably one of the most memorable birthdays I've ever had, thanks guys! :thumb:

It was a scary moment, I had the Jeep in 4lo and was letting the engine and gearing take me down slowly when the rear started to slide and wanted to come out front. I attempted to correct by accelerating but then the whole Jeep started to veer towards the cliff side. I really thought the Jeep was going to go over - it sure felt like it. To add insult to injury, while undergoing recovery, I slipped on the ice, fell and cut my forehead. I was glad I didn't knock myself out.

Yeah, I definitely hate icy conditions...

The second technical section on FB5 was hammered pretty bad, I foobared my front drive shaft pretty good.

It was ok for wheeling but I pulled it for the drive home, looks pretty awesome :happyyes:

From saddle up to Rocky uphill was very bad, that's where Ken almost lost his Jeep.

I've got a couple videos uploading to youtube, currently in pending.

That looks like C-line Rd heading into Lyda Camp??? If so, the pictures do not do that hill justice, very steep for sure!

Really glad you're not seriously hurt Ken!!! How did the Kevlar's do in comparison to the KM2's?

#31 ·
At this point, I have found them to be comparable in off-terrain traction, but one run isn't enough to make a balanced impression. Surprisingly they are rougher & noisier on the highway compared to the KM2s. I do know, I prefer the 33x10.5 size vs. the wider 12.5.

Dang, glad to see you kept it right side up Ken. I freaking hate ice like that. I'll put the tires in the ditch and creep it down. I had a wild ride in a full size chevy years ago on a set of switch backs. Dodging stumps in a clear cut is not something I'd reccomend! Pucker factor was at 10...lol.

The videos are in pending. There's a video of Jay destroying his side steps on rocky uphill.
