It was more d**m snow, of course maybe I should check the bolts on the ujoint straps to the hub once in a while

I might have thought to bring a spare ujoint (not that I could press it on the axle on the trail) but I doubt I would have brought a new hub.

Of course there's the 35mm socket and slide hammer I normaly forget

I'm gonna start trailering it t the trailhead, or maybe a moped to take me back to town to get the truck

You can change a wheel joint or driveline joint with a hammer and large socket. No sure what you needed a slide hammer for. And also the axle nut is a 36mm. I carry all tools need to do these types of repairs. U joints break, you should learn you is needed to repair them on the trail and carry what you need to do the repairs with you. What if your 8 miles into the Rubicon and broke a joint? I would suggest people carry 2-3 driveline joints, 2 wheel joints, one hub, yoke, straps/strap bolts, and one stub shaft. Jeep put short stub shafts on the 2wd XJ, MJ this keeps the bearing pressed in with out having the axle in.

Yea I got alot on my plate for this summer. June going to Elbe for a weekend, then headed to Mississippi if i dont screw up my plane tickets again. July planning a weekday Crusher/Airplane Hill Run. Paiting my jeep. Aug im going to Hollister Hills and Rubicon.

Wonder if people be interested in a basic mechanics day? Learn to change hubs, wheel joint driveline joints. brakes. Minor stuff like that.

Thumbs up

Yeah, It's been a couple of years since I tore apart a front axle.
Mark & Chris,
A great choice if we can make this happen..imo too.

I plan on carrying complete front axle shaft sets with the ujoints already on,
Once I'm properly set up..
My biggest reason is you take out all the guess work out of any damage you may not see or miss. That's just me... And it doesn't take that much more time to usually change it out as an assembly instead.

I loved Hollister when we went in August, But it is hot as hell, I'm sure you know that already.. And watch out for that frickin' Poison Oak there it's the worst ever, and known for it too. I'm still itching from it. lol
I have some family in Central Cali and one is Wrangler oriented too.

Outdoors thats wise to carry full shafts with you. Never know when something like this will happen.

I would be very interested in this. I was a mechanic in my early years, but never 4x4 stuff. I don't want to be experimenting with my daily driver. I could use some guidance.
