WF,
I thought it'd be a good idea to have a "one stop forum shop" for your Rock Hard 4x4 tech, installation, and 'how-the-h..' questions.

I'll check this thread as often as you need to make sure you get your questions answered. Whether it's a pre-purchase tech question, in the middle of install question, or super far down the road warranty question - let's consolidate it all right here.

Quick highlights that may help answer your question before you even ask:

Installation Instructions:
We've rewritten our instructions plus shot videos on how to install most of our most popular parts.
Click this link to get access for free download >>INSTRUCTIONS / VIDEO<<

Lifetime Warranty Questions:
Rock Hard 4x4 has a lifetime product warranty on all products we manufacture - except powder coat. Pretty much no questions asked unless it's a good story and I want to hear all about it!

A very common tech question - just shared this on Facebook as well.

Quote:
"I read I have to remove my factory cross member to install your Rock Hard 4x4 Oil/Pan and Transmission Skid Plate. Is that true?"
Not true - on newer JK's there is a new "skid" that you must remove prior to installing our system. It does not get reused and is frankly about as flimsy as the factory evap canister skid plate.

Tech Question via PM and it's a common enough question that I thought I should post the answer:

Quote:
Hey Jason,

I'm extremely torn between picking your stubby and full width. My main concern is rubbing issues with front tires on a full width. One of my friends had to ditch another companies full width after 37s.

What is the max size without rubbing issues you can fit with your full width? Currently it won't be a problem for me but I'm going 35s the summer and may eventually go 37s in the future.

PS: A warn Xeon is sitting at my house waiting for my bumper choice....
Great question!

Short answer: no problem.

Long answer: All of our JK bumpers include long and short spacers that you install between the frame rails and the inside skin of our bumper. This short spacer is used in 99% of installs and is designed to help clear your power and ground winch cables so you can route them down behind our bumper and in front of your grille. The longer spacers are used for some import winches that need more clearance because of how their power and ground cables come out of the back of their control boxes. These spacers are also the reason you can clear massive tires. 38" tires clear no problem and to clear a 40" tire just install both our long and short spacers

Zeon winches: On our lowered winch bumpers you'll need to trim a small 1/4" tab off one of your frame horns (there's a picture on our site) and if you have a 2012+ or newer JK you'll need our RH-5011 vacuum pump relocation bracket and use the smaller nut that's included in our hardware pack. The smaller nut gives you room for the Zeon series and Powerplant winches in our lowered winch well.

Hope this explanation helps!

Awesome Sport Cage tech question just came in - and we're surprised we had not posted it yet since it's so regular:

Quote:
"Should the clamps be tightened until they touch?"
They can touch, but that's a sign they may not be tightened down evenly. Remember, we machine our caps and collars but cut them apart with a saw blade. That means you'll be missing the width of the saw blade, so after install you should have an even gap all the way around. Start with center bolts, bring together evenly, then tighten outside bolts.

Tech question just in from Rob in Texas. "How many body mounts do your RH-6009 JK 4DR tube sliders mount to?"
Answer: Our tube sliders mount to all 3 plus your pinch seam for a 100% bolt on install.

Many of the import brand sliders only mount to 2 of the body mounts providing less than ideal weight distribution.

One of the most common tech questions in daily is what our powder coat looks like - what it feels like - and how to care for it.

I like to describe it as a semi-smooth, satin finish. It feels like an egg shell which makes it scratch resistant but isn't so rough that its impossible to clean dirt and mud off. It isn't super glossy but does have shine to it so it's gorgeous after a wash. Rough (hammered) finishes have large pores that make it nearly impossible to clean, and mirror finishes scratch with even light contact. Our finish is sprayed in house so we know all the nooks are coated. Years ago we outsourced and had no control over quality. Nowadays we have a finish we are proud of!

While we can't offer a warranty on our powder coat - we can tell you it can take a beating. Why can't we offer a warranty? Salted roads back East are notoriously hard on all finishes, not just powder coat. To offer a lifetime powder coat warranty would mean constant product removal on the consumer side plus shipping back and forth. Touching up nicks, scratches, and bumps from trail use with rattle can just makes more sense and does not take your Jeep out of commission.

Jason:

I am waiting on delivery of a Patriot full size aluminum bumper. Told it should ship on Wednesday.

I believe video says use shorter spacer. As I understand it longer spacer is for big ass tires( I'm running OEM).

My bumper is the lowered for the Warn Zeon. Suppose I use longer spacer or both? Will it look silly or at all different to the eye?

Lastly, theft deterrence: red lock tite or that $25 security nut I have seen for sale?

I thought about welding but I don't think i can weld aluminum to steel can I?

Just wondering?

Thanks

Actually - I'd like to see you use the long spacers. That way you'll get a little better fitment with the Zeon. No difference to the eye.

Do NOT lock-tite your hardware. You'll only end up pissing off a tech in the future should you ever need to pull the winch off for any maintenance. I suggest you get the Factor 55 winch nut.

Nope - you can't weld steel to aluminum.

Hardware Update regarding RH-6008/6009 Rock Hard 4x4 Tube Sliders

Approximately 4% of orders come back saying longer body mount hardware would have aided install. We think what's really happening is people are encountering the factory plastic washer inside the body mount and are unable to push through it. To give you an idea, we just installed a set on our new '15 last night and had no issue.

We do take customer/field feedback seriously though and because everything is made in house, running changes are easy to bring into production.

In response to this feedback, we are now including 6 replacement bolts for 4 door models and 4 bolts for 2 door models. This is all orders placed this week going forward. We have updated our YouTube video and written instructions with this hardware kit update.

We've been getting more tech questions lately about our updated tire carrier mounting plate design. It's been in the field now for over a year and with zero failures we know this was the right update our carriers needed. Hardware is included in all rear bumper and tire carrier part numbers.

This revision allows you to fit everything from a stock tire to a 40" tire, various wheel off sets, and all bolt patterns because it's fully adjustable.

With this redesign you now move your spare vertically (up/down) 6" PLUS horizontally (in/out) 4". No matter what offset or tire size your Jeep grows into - no need to change tire carriers once you install a Rock Hard 4x4! The wheel mounting plate still retains the same features that make it a premium carrier - laser cut for all bolt patterns, plus mounting holes for our RH-2002-TL 3rd brake light. This is still fully compatible with our best selling (and very rebranded) RH-4006 License Plate Relocation Brackets.

Thanks for the quick reply - I actually installed the Patriot sliders back in October - Love them - IMO - the most aesthetically pleasing tube style rock slider on the market.
Wanted the weights for my build thread - Always give you guys a big thumbs up every chance I get - Quick replies and all.
Down the road, I might replace the sliders with your Boat Sides - just wasn't ready to drill into the side of the new jeep just yet... Oh yeah will be getting your under body armor this spring

Crazy that I just found this after i sent your company an e-mail about the mid-width stubby bumper with the fog-light holes. I was wondering if there was anyway I could install the OEMs with additional hardware, etc? I am about to purchase this product and just wanted to know before it got here.
Product #: JK-19532

Thanks

Question 2016 JKUR Sport Cage questions

Hi,

I am getting closer to wanting to get one of your systems for my 2016 JKUR, but have a few questions for you.

1. for the JKUR i see that you offer the RH-1030-1L as the starting point for my rig, right?
2. if i wanted a "complete" system, it appears i would also need to add the RH-1030-A * the RH-1032 for the rear, right?
3. if q1&2 are correct, and i then want to add your padding options AND the MOLLE options for items 1&2 is that possible? i also couldn't find a padding option only for item 3? from your post announcing the MOLLE kits here, it appears the answer is yes?
4. it appears in one of your pictures that you show someone who has the sound deadening option in their JK and also has your roll cage. i have the Mopar headliner kit on mine, so is it safe to assume that your cage plus the padding with MOLLE pouches will still work with hard top and headliner?
5. i see all of your cages come raw, are you guys doing the powdercoating or do i have to do that upon receipt of the cage? if you guys do it, how much is it per section?

thanks!

1. Yes.
2. Yes.
3. Right now our front is compatible with and without padding, the rear is only compatible with padding OR Molle. A revised rear Molle will be available in a few months. For the RH-1032, I do have a $49.95 padding kit that will be on the site by the end of the week.
4. Won't be a problem.
5. We don't coat our cages, we want you to test fit first so you don't scratch your coating while getting over the learning curve.

Thanks for the prompt response on this.

One last question, on item 5 if I'm going to have someone else install it (i will) then can you powdercoat it from factory or do i have to do this on my own?

I still want you to coat it locally. This prevents the chance of damage during shipping also.

Question More roll cage questions

hey guys,

per my post here - three questions for you about compatibility with third party items.

Rock Hard Cage + Jtop shade top + Dirty Dog Rear Net Kit

1. do you have any insight on how the jtop shade will fit with your cage in my config (same gist as my original question around mopar headliner + cage)?
2. are you aware of a cargo net system that will fit around the RH-1032 like this one? per DD, theirs won't fit.

3. will the RH-1035 fit around the ARB 5102020 storage drawer (i also asked this on your product release page)?
ARB Wrangler Rolling Storage Drawer 5012020 (07-17 Wrangler JK 4-Door w/ Carpet Rear Trim) - Free Shipping
____________

also, a few questions specific for your stuff only.

1. how much real estate (specifically dog head room in the rear / top) do i lose if i put the third row cage (RH-1032) in for my dogs? it doesn't look too bad on the pictures on your website, but interested to know 1st hand for people who run the hard tops how noticeable it might be.
2. is RH-1032-RP the correct pad kit for item 1 above?
3. assuming the c-pillar (RH-1035) option is compatible with my ARB drawer & a complete cage kit (including 1&2 above) for a 2016 JKUR, is there a padding kit for this that you guys sell for it (again for my dogs protection)?

TIA
D

Rock Hard Cage + Jtop shade top + Dirty Dog Rear Net Kit

1. do you have any insight on how the jtop shade will fit with your cage in my config (same gist as my original question around mopar headliner + cage)?
We've never seen that top before, but it doesn't look like there'd be an issue.

We aren't aware of a shade top mfg making an extended length top for our RH-1032. You'd have to see if one of them would make a custom length for you.

Sorry, we have never tested that ARB part with our RH-1035.

The top bar hugs the hard top very closely. Very little headroom lost.

Thanks for all the clarifications, i will get updated quotes from the dealer next week.

I'm still worried about the 1035 fitting with the storage box, but sounds like you guys don't know if it will fit or not.

According to a customer on Wayalife, storage box required minimal cosmetic trimming.

Question any chance you have a JKUR in house with a full cage?

hey guys, last question on this. i found a custom cargo net option for your cage, but they want measurements which i can't provide as i don't have it yet. can you answer the following questions from raingler who is willing to make me a custom cargo net?

-do you have pictures of a 2015+ JKUR with the third row cage + c pillar that you can send me
-do you have access to a rig that you can pull measurements from based on question above
-if no to both of the above, do you have any other ideas on how we can get this done

here is what i'm looking at:

https://raingler.com/collections/jee...ack-window-net

https://raingler.com/collections/jee...limited-4-door
