Lightbulb 98 wrangler amc timing chain

if the amc 4 cyl is a cut down amc 6 cyl why does the 4 cyl have a loose chain and slack adjuster and the 6 have a regular timing chain set up ?could you use the chain and gears off the 6 on the 4 and eliminate the slack adjuster? seems like just one more part to go wrong to me , since it has , twice have 154k miles on engine.thanks ,from the loranger area.
