Actually Peason is another good place to ride (but not during hunting season).. The "Box" is the villages and towns built up for training at JRTC.. Many ways to access the area , HWY 121- toward Hicks, there's a road on the right, Hagan?? Rd., that takes you in the back of the "Box" ; Easiest way, if you have Post access, is North Entrance Rd., continue onto Artillery Rd. (same rd)...; or "Tank Trail" (468) , turn left onto Artillery Rd... I haven't wheeled out there in a while, but tanks, humvees, and other vehicles have numerous trails..
When I was in NOLA (back in 1999), there was a local Jeep club/offroad club called the "swamp riders". A guy named Kurt Evans was the president/leader. Don't know if they are still around but I remember riding a few bayou runs with them way back in the day.
I should be in the spillway one day this weekend. Not sure which day yet, but as soon as I find out I will post something here. I was considering getting a forum going for locals to see of we can start finding new areas to wheel in. Not sure if it would take off or not though.
I don't have a cb yet. I think that will be my next investment. There.use to be a 4x4 trail on the north east side of the spillway. Not sure if it is still there or not. I know if they catch you in the wrong spot they will give you a 400 dollar ticket. The trail was a little north of the boat launch and camping area. I should be out there around 2 pm.
So the spillway kinda sucks now. Park rangers seem to be complete jerks. I was out for a bit not really offroading or anything and I was stopped two times. I was actually looking for a place to hunt. I did however go on the river side and ride a bit, right behind the locks. We need to find another place to go. We should also try to get a meet together with everyone from the area. Any ideas.
