Cheaha Ride June 1st

Saturday, June 1...... Meet at the new Mc D's at the intersection of Hwy 9 and Interstate 20 in Heflin, Alabama at 9 AM for breakfast.......allow some time for the troops to gather, and leave around 9:30 for Cheaha, which is only 10 minutes away.

For those not familiar, there are spectacular views, and lots of ORV trails through the woods, (but won't scratch up the paint).

I'm up for Saturday. Stock rubicon but pretty green with my jeep. Looking forward to it.

I was loading up the jeep tonight when I checked the oil. I decided to look underneath again and saw oil on the ground! Apparently last week at Hale Mtn when I drug my @$$ across some rocks I jarred the oil pan hard enough to create a small leak in the seal. I will not be making the trip in the morning. I need to get this up on a lift, pull the EVO skids and hopefully just have to put a new gasket on her. Plenty of oil in the motor so I am not afraid any permanent damage was done, but i still need to take a look before I put any more miles on her. Sorry to bail on you all, but I am glad I found it tonight and not half way down there. I'll let you know what I find.

Good news is that the bolts on the back side(where the drain plug is) were loose. There are some pretty good dents on the bottom of my jeep. The oil pan is just RTV'd there is not a gasket. Up on the lift you could see where the oil was leaking on the backside. Tightened everything back up to spec and will watch it for a week or so for further drips. If I need to I will pull the pan, drain the oil, & reseal the pan.

Good ride. Had one YJ with a wheel problem. Changed it on the side of Cheaha. The same YJ got a broke frame just behind the front bumper on passenger side when trying to respool his winch. One TJ stuck in a mud hole for a few minutes. Weather held out on us all day. Started raining after we got off the trails and on our way to eat.

Are there certain areas designated for riding?

You can ride any dirt road that is not locked with a gate.
