gas mileage

i just bought a 1999 jeep wrangler sport,5 speed,I-6,33-12.50 tires, when i filled it up and drove it home,at the 30 mile mark i had used 1/4 of a tank of gas,any suggestions on what i can do to help my gas mileage a little bit,i know its not going to get great gas mileage, but it should be getting better than that!

That's about 8mpg! Do you know the gear ratios? Does it have Mud terrain tires? Is your tire pressure low? When was the last tune up?
Lots of factors to look at. If all things above are an issue, you're mileage could be 8 mpg.

I'd fill it up again, run that 30 mile drive, then fill up again and do the calculation to actually see what your MPG is. Then go from there on trying to find ways to get a lilttle better MPG out of your rig. With tires at that size, you are going to have to expect not that great of mileage when it comes to gas. Just part of the territory with owning a beast...lol Mine sucks as well but I expected it to happen.

Yep, I do expect not so great gas mileage, but I did expect a at least 15 mpg, idk .

Did you buy it from a private party or a dealership? Do you know when the fluids were last changed?

I bought it from a small jeep dealer, not a big name dealer, but they had 30-40 wranglers, and I don't know when they where changed, I guess I'll just start with an all out tune up tonite!

My yj has 31s on it and I get about 15mpg. 33s wouldn't make that big of a difference. Also, my tank does the same thing after 30 miles a quarter is gone but I've gone 180 miles on a tank (18mpg because of my 10 gallon tank). Maybe yours is like mine and the gas gauge is just funky.
