Does anyone know off hand what the factory gear ratio is on a 2000 jeep wrangler with a 4.0 , and manual transmission ?

There are a bunch of options. Call a Jeep dealer and give them your vin#. That will tell you what came with it factory unless it was changed

Tha tag is missing off the front and back, I'm trying to figure out why my 99 tj is getting 10 mpg, and my buddies 2000 tj is getting around 15mpg, I put it on a computer today and it showed everything is good, we both have 33/12.50 tires, and manual transmission, my tag on the rear end says mine came from the factory with 3.73, I think mine has been changed, but I'm not sure, just trying to find out before I pull the cover off and start counting teeth on the ring gear and pinion!

Problem is you never know what someone else has done. What RPMs are you at in 5th gear while cruising 60mph?

I found this on JF not that it will give you the answer but good references.

I haven't checked that yet, you are right about that! I going to pull the cover off the rear end and count the teeth on the ring gear and pinion, I drove it this morning, and I really don't think mine has been changed by the way you have to gear down going up hills, I think mine is still stock, but not for sure, I do know that's a big difference in mpg between these two jeeps, mine still has the tag on the rear end, and his does not, thanks for the info, I appreciate it !

That's so hi tech! It's great! I was wondering the same thing about mine. All my diff tags are missing and my gas mileage seems more poor than average; however, mine is registered in a non-emmission county so right now she has the cat back removed and the main cat is hollowed. Seemed to help MPGs a little, but definitely improved HP. LOL.

Thanks for all the info, I didn't get the bronco info in time, so I went ahead and pulled the rear diff cover, I found out mine is 3.73, so I'll have to look at my buddies and see if his was changed.

[QUOTE="Bennett;3812187"]Thanks for all the info, I didn't get the bronco info in time, so I went ahead and pulled the rear diff cover, I found out mine is 3.73, so I'll have to look at my buddies and see if his was changed. There is just too much difference between the two, what is the next lowest gear ratio ?

Jeep Rear Axle Ratio

3.07:1 3.73:1 4.11:1

3.73:1 incld with Trac Lok

4.11:1 avail only with 5 spd as Option

3.07:1 std on Sport and Sahara

Info from 1999 TJ Brochure

I ordered my 1999 TJ with the 4.11:1 and 5 Speed

COULD BE A 3.07---3.73----4.11 ?

32" MICHELIN M&S-----32/10.5/R15
Ordered new in March 1999
Every Option except Auto Trans
Black ext. Grey int.
Has only around 3000 miles not even a tank of gas a year
Is this the lowest mileage 1999 TJ in EXISTENCE?
Thinking of selling it
