Hood Stickers

I want to redo the hood decals on my TJ. The ones on there now are warn and faded but I cant get them off. Ive tried GooGone, heat, lighter fluid, decal eraser even gas and nothing is working. Im thinking these may be warn to the point of it just being the adhesive, it kinda feels like real fine sandpaper. I really dont want to sand and repaint if I dont have to. Im open to any suggestions. Also want to find some replacement decals with the same font, I like the rounded letters but cant seem to find them anywhere. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

If you are going for the exact same font and size, why not just put the new decals over them. It would be a lot easier than repainting. I know that there are a couple of places that sell them. If I can find one on my list, I'll post a link.

Let me check something else. Can you post a close-up shot of your decal? I'll identify the font and then you can have them made at just about any sign shop.

its just totally baked from the sun,,i make decals for a living and googone has worked on everything,,i live by it...put a ton of it on there in a shaded area and let it sit for a while then dig with your nail trying not to scratch paint,,once you get some off,,spray more googone on it and repeat until removed...if you cant find exact decals anywhere,,i can make them and sell to you through ebay..i give good deals to forum members.

spray a ton on a few paper towels until they are soaked and rub decal firmly with them. over and over and over..lol..its pretty baked on there,,i can tell from photo.

make sure you can feel a "raise" from paint to decal,,,i wouldnt want to advise you to try to get it off if it is paint.

I can feel the raise, tried googone and a decal eraser. neither one worked. How much to make these, and how do I measure them correctly? Looking for some in a light grey, would kinda like them in a silver diamond plate if possibly. Thanks and I will try again with the googone.

One thing of note. If you put new decals over existing, and the existing are damaged, the damage will show through because of the uneven surface underneath.

Did you try a heat gun?
Not hot enough to blister the paint, but hot enough to soften the plastic.

No heat gun, but did try a good hair drier. Would seem like the decals have seen way too much heat already. Got them soaking in GooGone now. Keeping my fingers crossed.

definetly do not want to put over existing decals..

to measure just measure length and heighth. and my program will automaticaly make it that size.

good luck with removal,,for 2 wrangler decals in light grey for that size would be around 20 for both.

A hair dryer doesn't get hot enough. A heat gun will soften the plastic.

Goo Gone is an OK product but I have always used good old fashioned Ronsionl lighter fluid.
Not long ago I did a side by side test between the two when removing my hood decals for the umpteenth time. The lighter fluid kicked but over the goo gone for dissolving the adhesive. It's a helluva lot less expensive too. You can get a huge container of it for the same price you get a teensy little bottle of goo gone.

Believe it or not, Im having trouble finding good ol lighter fluid. Everybody has butane now though. Wallyworld, Dollar General, even some tried some local 7-11 type stores. Nobody has it. Trying a couple more places tomorrow. Am making some progress, the lettering is getting lighter, and I dont feel the raised edges any more. Can however still see the lettering background. Seelye I will be getting those stickers from you next week if thats OK. I will get the measurements and send them in the next day or two.

I get mine at the cigarette store

Once you get them all cleaned off then run a buffer over the area with a light duty polishing compound, That will make all of the surfaces blend together for an even glow. I would wait to apply wax until after you install the new decals.

You can pick up a heat gun at Harbor Freight for under $20

bigdog,,hey sorry man i cant find that exact font where the letters run together and when i tried to trace the only good copy i could find,it came out blurry, meaning the cut would be jagged..and when i try to create it myself,i cant seem to get it right because they use upper case and lower case letters together,,i also cant find a vector of it anywhere..
so your options are
i can do them in many different styles (you can choose from dafont.com)
or
you can probably find the right size on ebay somewhere.

sorry i cant help right now,,but i will be on the lookout for that lettering or vector.
