There's Bell Mountain too, if it's open. Rumors were that it had closed, but actually they just put a gate up, but didnt close it. I think it's in preparation for an oncoming closing to make it into a hiking trail. I'd love to go up there, but I think it's a little bit more advanced than Charlies and Tray and Idk if my stock JKUWW could make it, specially with my little experience.
Bells has two sections that are a little tricky, a deep rut you drive through and kind of feel like you'll roll into the wall and the big rock you have to either go around or over. I always prefer to go over but it is definitely unnerving if you don't do it often
I will probably go if it is somewhere I can make with my stock Sport. I doubt I will have changed tires or lifted it by then. It's my DD, can't tear it up. I am a couple hours south, so my wife and I will probably just make a weekend trip out of it.
We'll need to confirm on Bell. I talked to a Jeeper yesterday at the local Pepboys who said that Bell was closed, and that Charlies would be closed soon if jacklegs kept tearing it up.
I have heard that stock jeeps can make it. Not sure if ya'll have seen this site, but gives some good info on some of the GA trails.
Charlie's was my first trail. Bone stock when I did it. No problem for a stock ride. While on Charlie's we actually passed a Prius (no joke). She made it to a certain point and turned around before the ruts/rocks.
I haven't done bell but I heard it was now closed or gated at certain times. I've seen pics of stock jeeps at the top.
Newbie here y'all. What exactly do you do during a Jeep run? My husband and I live in the city and there's not many Jeep owners where we live (which kills us). We're both dying to hang out with other Jeep owners.
Chloe, we will meet somewhere, make introductions, discuss our mods, or talk shop, maybe grab something to eat, and then hit the trails for some 4 wheeling fun.
I think this time we are looking at Charlie's Creek, so it should be exciting as some of us have not been there.
Most importantly is that you meet fellow "Jeepers" !!!!!
I've been on both Charlie and Bell multiple times and both are great rides! I've see stock jeeps make it up both with ease. It's just best to have someone in the group with a little knowledge to help out for time to time!
New to this forum and recently bought our 2nd Jeep at the end of May. Our 1st weekend with it we tried the GPS cordinates for Charlies Creek on Jeepsontrails website. Thought we were at the correct trailhead and it was chained off to 4WD vehicles...If someone in the group has been there recently to confirm it is open (we could have had the wrong trail head) we would love to join you. We were so bummed when we drove up and didn't get to try the trail. Please let us know details for July 11th. We're in Cumming and would enjoy meeting other Jeep owners to trail with on the weekends.
'm going up to Tallulah Gorge today and I'm probably going to be making a run through Charlie's Creek at some point if any of you will be up there feel free to join
Yea it was, we went down to the gorge floor from the interpretive center and then up the south rim trail to the bridal veil falls trail and then back around to inspiration point. The heart got a workout yesterday
Dang we went "wheeling" yesterday at Dicks Creek and stopped by the Gorge on the way home. We didnt do any hiking, but took the gravel road down to the Ga Power Boat dock on Lake Tugalo and skipped a few rocks.
I love the sliding rock! You just have to get there early enough to get a permit to be allowed to the gorge floor. I really enjoy the hike to the sliding rock as well!
Hi all, I'm looking forward to getting out on trails again and meeting y'all. I285 isn't cutting it for me.
Just an update I saw on the Facebook page for georgia jeepers that it seems as though Charlie's creek has been "paved" to some extent. I think the main challenging ruts have been smoothed over. I was there last fall and there still may be some ruts, rocks, etc but it's mostly a rough gravel/ dirt road if they've smoothed out much of it.
I'm sure it's still a nice joy ride though, which is fine for me as I'm not yet a serious crawler.
I am still in. I do need to be back in Alpharetta by 6pm at the latest. Does that give me enough time?
