Lightbulb Too good to be true?

My step dad called me and said he'd found me a jeep. Its a nice looking '98 stock wrangler with 95,xxx miles for $3,900.After searching everywhere and seeing prices on used jeeps that sounds way too good for it to be a deal unless theres rust or something on the engine is messed up.Could it really just be a good deal or do you think somethings wrong with it?

Never know until you check it out. Not everyone knows what they have. I never luck up into deals like this but some people do.

Now you have the money to build the way you want it and even if something does need some work you got it covered. For sure go test drive it.

I see what looks like a Sport sticker - is that a 4.0? Hell, even a 2.5 is a screaming deal at that price if it's mechanically sound and relatively rust free. If it still seems like a deal after the test drive, I would definitely pay a mechanic to perform a detailed inspection. Should cost around $100 or so, which is a lot cheaper than finding out something is wrong with it a few miles down the road...

4.0-6 cylinder automatic trans. In the info they wrote it was a second vehicle they only used during the summer but they garaged it during winter so theyre tryin to sell it.Its in MA but for that price im willing to drive the distance.Hell id walk for that price. The interior looks nice and you can tell its been taken care of.But i guess ill never know until i test drive it.

The only thing on it that i dont like are the doors.I think id like the full metal doors with glass better.

Here's where your budget comes in. I think it's just the color of the top. Black would be better.

If it matters, the autos in 97 were a 3 speed. If you go with bigger tires and wheels its gonna need some gears. Just something to consider. But that is a smoking deal

Its a 1998.Is it the same?I know tjs started in '97 so i dont think they would change the gears in the next year would they?

The 3 speed auto was 97 - 02. It's a solid transmission. But really has no bearing on re gearing. If you go bigger tires you should re gear regardless of year.
