Tray Mountain

I'm headed to Tray Mountain Friday for the first time. Is it the road that runs off of 17/75 to Chimney Mountain Rd? If so how long of a run is it? I have a friend following me with a stock TJ will he have any problems ? Any advice would be helpful. Thanks

Yeah, that's it. Plan on a couple hours. No problems for stock TJ. Probably won't even need 4wd for most, if not all of it. I think most people run it starting from the Chimney Mountain Rd side but you can do it either way.

If you want something else to do while out that way Bell Mountain is about 20 miles north in Hiawassee. It's not much of a trail, short ride once you get off pavement but the view is awesome. This is from last Saturday.

Thanks for the info. We have 2 day trip planned and our wives are going. I don't know where all the places are. Been reading posts and trying to find them on a map. My plan was to start at Tray head to Bell Mt. the only hotel we could find was in Murphy NC. Spend the night there and try Beasley on the way home. Is that due able ? Or would you suggest something else?

You probably know it but the reason you can't find a Hotel is because of Oktoberfest going on in Helen. Be ready for lots of traffic getting through there depending on when you roll through.

Beasley Knob is closed due to the Government shut down. Not sure how soon they will reopen if a deal is reached today, but hopefully it will be open for the weekend. Make sure and call them on Friday.

Sounds like a good plan to me. If Beasley is still closed myself and couple others on here could make some suggestions for other stuff to do on day 2.

Do you need directions to Bell? Were there other roads you were trying to locate?

Is Bell Mt is off Shake Rag Rd. ? Is it marked? If you don't mind can I get some suggestions for day 2. After all we are talking about the Government and even if they did reach an agreement I'm sure it will be Monday before they return to work. Thanks again for your help.

Yes, Shake Rag Rd has a street sign, there is corner store/gas station at the intersection. Just follow that all the way up. When you get close to the top it will get severely rutted out. The stock TJ for sure will want to take one of the bypasses.

For Day 2 if Beasley is not open then maybe do Charlies Creek and Flatlands.

Charlies Creek is off of Upper Hightower Rd in Hiawassee about a 30 min drive from Bell. You take route 2/76 east to Upper Hightower then turn right on Charlies Creek. There are some fun off shoots. You will eventually end up on Sandy Bottom and then Tallulah River Rd. At the end it will look like the road dead ends at the river. You just cant see where it pics up on the other side. When the road ends drive into the river allong the right side for a couple hundred feet and then you will see the road starting up on the left. It shouldn't be too deep if it doesn't rain too much this week.

I have never been to Flatlands myself just heard it's a fun place to go. Check out
Flatlands (Georgia) | JeepsonTrails.com for the coordinates at either end. Maybe someone else can chime in here about it too.

They have taken down the recording saying they are closed due to shut down but it didn't say if the ORV parks are open or not. As long as not too much rain good chance Beasley will be open. Call 706 745 6928 tomorrow during the day.
