Thumbs up Central Florida Jeep Club

So basically I got tired of paying the yearly dues to my old Jeep club, so several people and myself have gotten together and created a Jeep Club that is free to join. Basically members are added to our email list-Facebook page-and Instagram page to get information about club events and such. Jeepers should spend money on parts, not memberships. Thank you for your time - Central Florida Jeep Club

Will check out your Facebook page when I can. I mostly wheel in ONF myself and not currently a member of any club.

Cheers!

Smile New 4 wheelers

Hi to all,
Just bought our 2nd Wrangler and now looking to use this one off road. Looking for easy, low tech trails for us to just have a little fun without killin' our truck. We live on Lake Eustis and want to find some local trails for nature watchin, picnic in the woods and get away on weekends. Any locals know where to send us?

North on Hwy 19. once you pass Altoona you are in the Ocala National Forest. Trails are on all sides from there all the way up to the Rodman Dam. Cross the river at Astor, have some lunch then up to the Lake George Conservation area for some more wheeling.

Look for my post on the Ocala National Forest in this same forum and you will see a Google Map with various saved points that you can drive to without a problem in a mildly modified jeep (ie good tires, minimal lift) I use 32" Duratracs.

Good luck,

It's a 2004 Wrangler Sport TJ and I had a 4" lift installed with 33"x12.50 15 Nitto Trail Grabber M/T's on 15"x10" ProComp's. Currently I don't have a winch so are these trails matched to my truck you think? We were thinking of joining a club after feeling out some trails. Input is appreciated. Danny

Yes, we already discussed the buddy system for safety. We would be looking to ride with others until we are more familiar with the sport. Then after we might join a Jeep club. We were going to look into the "Wandering Wiregrass Trail" near Astor but I read that trail is only open to atv's and motorcycles. Do you know if that is correct?

There are lots of ATV only trails on the south end and more around the Rodman dam. They are clearly marked and obviously narrow for the most part. Don´t get too hung up on specific trails as the Forest Service opens and closes trails at will. Just drive what looks interesting and back up if you think you are getting in too deep. Most no-go areas are well marked and big metal gates are used to close off sections.

Let me make this clear, the ¨trails¨ are, for the most part, improved gravel roads that you could drive on in your mother-in-laws sedan. Where it gets interesting is the old service/fire roads, logging roads, hunter roads etc. These are generally not marked on maps but may be marked or not on the actual trail. Biggest hazard aside from water is seriously deep sugar sand and pits dug into the intersections of bigger roads. Keep forward momentum.

Google maps works well if you download the area for offline use, use the satellite view and you can see trails that are not on the forest service maps. These are usually fire roads and left over logging roads. It will be clear what is seeing use.

Your jeep is plenty capable but with no winch, extra caution and/or another vehicle is advised.

Thanks Roger for the info. Another few questions, if I air down do any of the trails have compressors to refill when ready to street drive again? We had those on the beach cuts up in NY so we just needed to bring the air hose with proper fitting. Also, are you saying just hit trails that look interesting unless marked "prohibited" and there are no legal issues or permits required? Sorry bout all the questions but I'm not a fan of an irate land owner to "pepper" my tailgate or the law issuing me that "revenue payment" to their dept., LOL. Maybe I'd just be better off wheelin' with some seasoned locals till I learn the route.......ya think?

Danny and Joanie,

They do not have compressors or anything. I haven felt the need to air down but if I did I would just air down maybe a bit and then stay on dirt roads until I got to a service station. I have a small compressor I bring along but it would take a while to air back up with it.

It is all national forest except for private property which is well marked. we do not cross gates that are not open and obey signs prohibiting motor vehicals. Some roads are private like for logging and gas pipeline but are clearly used by everyone and marked and maintained public boat ramps can only be reached using the ¨private¨ roads.

Don´t think you will get in trouble if you obey the signage on the ground. We certainly have never had any kind of issue.

I encourage you to explore the numbered NFS roads shown in Google maps and the USGS maps as well.

I will post links to the USGS maps in the new thread I started here:Ocala National Forest trails and outings

..as soon as I have a moment to dig them up again..

Next time ya'll head out on a Sunday, or even a Saturday evening, give me a shout. I live in Pierson and usually end up going solo. It would be good to do some trail ridin' with other folks. I have an 06 LJ with 4" lift, 33's, winch, cross over steering, etc. I normally run some pretty cool trails in ONF. I would be interested in finding the Lake George trails as that's in my backyard.

Unfortunately I am obviously doing something incorrectly with my posts...... I am no longer receiving responses to my last 3 posts. I am not very computer literate at all and maybe I have a setting wrong. Oh well, guess we're on our own.....
