Check the website! I read they were closed that weekend for a vintage motocross event. Maybe I misread....

Hardrock is closed that is why we are just doing a trail ride in the forest. Thanks for the heads up though.

How muddy are the trails this time of the year? I'm all down for some trail riding. Just don't want to turn my jeep into a submarine :P

I've only been there a handful of times and I've never encountered any water. It's always been pretty dry.

I put the address in my phone and it shows me this... Does that look like the right spot for the meeting place? It brought up the city as ft McCoy fl so I wanted to make sure before I drive 3 hours and get lost with no cell service.

I believe that's it but I'll refer to Modrodr, he's the navigator.

i hate to ask what could be a very stupid question, but does anyone know if the trails will be shut down because of the government shut down? it looks like the national forest system, including ocala is shut for the time being: Florida Residents Suffer From Federal Government Shutdown | WUFT News

Thats it. I would put Fort McCoy into my GPS as opposed to Salt Springs. Also the Salt Springs Square is big, you cant miss it.

Not a dumb question at all. The last time we went there were no gates that would keep a vehicle out, so I think we will be fine. Im not worried about it.

I'm thinking of taking the doors off for the trip.. Are there a lot of mud holes/wet spots that I would miss out on if I did so? Opinions from those who've been.. Thanks!

Salt Springs is at that fork in the road.

Should be no gates up.

Not too muddy out their right now. Even if, you can drive around most holes.

Whoa. Just read that article. I'll check into and let you know. Definitely no gates up to keep you out. Not sure how a ranger would react to you being out there though. Doubt they would care. Doesn't sound like a good idea to pitch a tent if campers are being asked to leave.

Yeah probably not a good idea to camp in the woods especially with all of the Rainbow maniacs out there.

It is hunting season so the rainbows will more than likley leave you alone. As for the shutdown its just the controled camping and rec places and theres no rangers.

Well, heres the new twist. Salt Springs is closed. I called them earlier in the week and they assured me that they would be open. I called to confirm today, and they informed me that they had indeed been shut down. We have moved to the Ocklawaha Canoe Outpost and Resort. I know, sounds fancy.... I'll let Modrodr worry about the other details. All of this for a good day of wheelin.
