In the market for a tj

Hello,

Im fairly a newbie to the jeep community. I bought a CJ about a month and a half ago, I tried to do the old school thing and it did not quite work out for me. It had too many issues. Im looking to buy a TJ (years 98-02 under 100k miles) and was wondering if anyone could help me out with pros and cons. I am in the middle of doing my research about them. Also, I am not sure if i should be looking for a TJ with stock suspension? Most of the TJ's I am finding have new lift kits. I really like the lift kits but a buddy of mine (who is a non-jeep owner) advised me to get a jeep with stock suspension and wheels.

Thanks

Generally speaking the stockers will have been less molested than ones that are lifted already. You never know if the lifted ones were done properly, or what kind of shortcuts the previous owners may have taken. That is why it is preferred to buy a stock Jeep if you're buying used.

Ok thanks. Im really interested in this 00' TJ. The guy put a lift on it but never took it off road because there are not many legal places to do it here and he only used to travel with his family. He is the original owner and it does not have any rust or signs of off-road usage. Im hoping he will allow the jeep shop down the street me from to inspect it before I make a final decision.

Oh and I plan to do some light trails if I can find any around here. So that also has to go into consideration.

if he doesn't then he's not an honest seller and you should look somwhere else.

There are guys that just like the look of the lifted Jeep and never take them off road, so he may be on the up & up. I work with a guy like that. He has a SWEET TJ lifted w/ 33's and a soft top that he never takes off road. He has never even had the top off of it and he's had it like 4 years. We get on him all the time about it.
