That's on the 23rd, correct? Unfortunately, I'll be out of town that weekend.

Ditto!

It's been only beach driving for me since owning my Jeep for 5 months. :/

We're not exactly in a prime location for good wheeling are we. Ocala is still on my list of places I want to go. It's tough fitting it in right now but it will definitely be happening this spring/summer. Tabber will be up to bat when it comes time to ride down there. I bet he could show us some good spots. I've heard that place is HUGE!

Just got at jeep and hitting the ground running. I'm in Lake Butler (just north of Gainesville between Starke and Lake City) and looking forward to meeting up with y'all.

nope... i'm not much of a fan of mud either.. a little is okay (part of the trail, but just sitting around a mud hole - nope.. that's not my idea of wheeling.. )

yes sir! happy to show you guys some trails... with a little luck we can set something up before summer... before everything starts to grow over from all the rain. best to go in the winter or early spring. before all the vines grow back!

Yep, it's hard to go off-roading in Florida that doesn't involve some mud, but mud bogging has never appealed to me. Maybe it's the cleanup afterwards.

I would love to see some trails in other parts of the state. Maybe if you get up to Northeast Florida, you can come out to Osceola Forest. By mid-summer it's very wet though. Even this past weekend, we encountered more water crossings than I had seen since last August because of some rain a couple of weeks ago. I'm glad I extended my axle breather hoses last week.

This is what one trail looked like:

I'm glad this wasn't me:

Wow...that is a lot of water. BTW, what is an "axle breather"?

I'm game for some modest off-road adventures. Let's use this forum for organizing something.

Also, anyone in Jacksonville (or close vacinity) care to get together for a beverage and Jeep discussion?

Jeff

yup... looks like richloam in the summer time. i make it a point to stay away from places like that... water crossings are cool... but trail riding under water... nah - i'll pass...

If you ride in water, extending the front and rear axle breather hoses is a good idea. It's a cheap and easy mod that provides some extra protection. Here are a couple of threads that helped me out:

http://www.wranglerforum.com/f33/ext...se-185089.html

http://www.wranglerforum.com/f33/ext...lp-224465.html

I have not done the transfer case or transmission breather hoses because I hope to never be in deep enough water for them to be a problem. For the axle breather hoses, they terminate roughly near the top of the wheel well. They will suck in water if submerged. If you look at the pic of the yellow YJ above, he was in deep enough water for it to potentially be a problem. My axle breather hoses are now about 2 feet higher than stock and it gives me some extra peace of mind.

I'm in for some other off-road adventures, especially of the mild to moderate variety. The problem is finding places to wheel in the Jacksonville area.

That isn't my idea of great off-roading conditions either. I don't mind a water crossing or two, but riding on underwater trails isn't it.

The pics were more to warn anyone that might be going out to Osceola Forest to be wary of the conditions. We were there a month ago, and it was much different (drier) than this past weekend. Also, many trails in Osceola are fine, you just have to be careful to not get in the really low-lying areas like we managed to find, especially after a lot of rain. I'm just glad I was with a group.

Anybody going wheeling this coming week for spring break, well for us that are in college yet lol regardless I got new jeep, new 33" tires and I'm dying to get them dirty, need ideas around Jacksonville to throw some dirt that won't get me a trespassing charge, power lines and unfinished neighborhoods is all I've found so far.

Hello! Just another new guy to the forum. I just bought my '13 JKU last weekend, and I'm looking forward to mods and getting to know a new community! I've already got wheels/tires on (33" maxxis bighorns), and my lift is getting installed as we speak. Let me know if any of you are in the Jax area and would like to get together and have some beers!

welcome to the forum.

load up some pictures of your rig after the lift.

with a little luck we're going to try and put together a Jacksonville and Tampa wranglerforum meet and greet and wheeling trip in Ocala soon...

You've nailed the problem. It's not like we have Moab or the Rubicon Trail nearby. I've spent some time on some private property (with permission), but finding legal land uses in the area has been difficult. I'd love to hear from anyone else that knows of some places to wheel in the Jacksonville area. It's one of the reasons we drive an hour to get to Osceola.

Welcome! Definitely post some pics. It seems we have a growing community of Jeepers in Jax if we can just find some places to use our Jeeps.

I've been to Ocala once, but it was on the south end which is about a 2 hour drive from Jax. 2 hours there and back takes up most of the day unless you stay overnight.

i hear you... it's definitely an all day thing. it's a 2+ usually 3 hour trip to ocala.. by the time you stop to meet up with everyone... typically end up back home late for sure.

Looking forward to a possible Jax/Ocala meet. Just need to plan it after April 2nd when I'm back in town from a trip up north. I won't be in my Jeep, but I'm going to be scouting out a couple of places in Kentucky that I might take a Jeep trip this summer.

That's actually one of the places I'm planning on checking out. I'll be in Lexington, so it's close.

Another area is near Kentucky Lake, where there is a Jeep Jamboree in May: Jeep Jamboree USA » Event Detail

Thinking about this, if your club would take a Jax visitor, I might interested in tagging along.

Anybody going to participate in the Just Jeeps poker run next weekend at Camp Blanding? It is in my back yard and should be some good trails if they open any of the tank trails.

I found a good muddy spot by beach and kernan if anyone wants to join me. I went today and had some fun. Lots if trails and lots of mud. I was alone so I didn't attempt half of it. But it has places for stock and modded jeeps. So let me know. I plan on going a lot. But don't want to mud alone, because that's just stupid
