master cylinder replacement and bleeding brakes

I think I have to do that this weekend. the master cylinder shouldn't be an issue. but, can anyone local give me a heads up on how to bleed the brakes post-replacement?

I'm may be coming up to Riverview on Saturday... how much farther are you? I've bled many brakes and could give ya a hand.

I live in Riverview, between 301 and Bloomingdale, just off Providence Rd.

I'm looking at going to horsedad's on Saturday morning to see if he needs help with his TJ column replacement and can swing your way afterwards, can help with bleeding brakes. If we're all good could swing down to Palmetto and wheel a bit too.

Only drove it home so far. But they seemed fine for the 4.1 miles. Thanks, Tom and you, for doing it and showing me for future reference! Another auto repair in my repertoire!

I have heard there are brake and clutch cylinders that are sealed and don't require bleeding.

We replaced both rear wheel cylinders on Amocat's YJ as well as replaced & rebuilt both rear brake assemblies. Since we "opened" the lines we had to bleed the brakes to remove air.

While some vehicles use sealed or pre-bled clutch systems anytime you open a brake system you need to bleed the brakes to clear the master cylinder, lines and/or wheel cylinders & pistons of air. Add to that, the fluid in Amocat's system looked a bit dated and was due for some flushing. Dot 3 brake fluid is hydroscopic and sucks water out of the air. Slowly if you master cylinder cap gasket is good but it will happen over time. So a bleed-flush is good for pretty much any older brake system if you're pulling brake maintenance anyway.

Yah, you're right. Two days of brake rebuilds plus clobbering my head on Amocat's TJ spring shackle got sort of fuzzy. Still at least my tech point was correct....

Wasn't it my shackle that bit your head? Which is it you're getting: a concussion or amnesia? Just messing with ya. ;-)

Okay.... it waz a Frickin shackle on SOMEBODY'S TJ!!!! I worked two days on 4 jeeps, cut me a...... no, i just can't say it...

I will admit i had quite a goose egg on my noggin... my wife wanted to know who or what hit me. I just told her that i had to pound a jeep with my head until it cried for mercy...

If you're not wheeling you're fixin.....

BTW, we will not be here for the next run but we're looking forward to the trip after that... Also, got the new front track bar on... Still arguing with A-zone on a refund for the other. They cant find the record of purchase. Put on a Moog HD from Napa. Steers much better now...

I really do appreciate all the help you did and hope to repay the favor. My most immediate project is of the cosmetic kind... seems someone's not terribly pleased with the battle wounds Fluffy encountered over the weekend, blazing a few new paths in uncharted territory... needs some scratches buffed out (hopefully they buff out!).

How could A-zone not have a record? Given a choice, I'd rather have the Moog anyway... glad it's steering better for ya. Have a safe trip and look forward to seeing you in about 3 weeks!

One of these days we need to weld in the floor pan patch on the yellow YJ . Any idea what the gauge of a YJ floor pan is?
