Hey guys, my name is Katelyn and I'm in the west mobile area. I'm a senior at Spring Hill College. I'm on another forum with ezekiel97 and he told me about this thread over here. I've got an '07 JK with a 3.5" lift and 35" nitto trail grapplers. I wanna come riding with yall this weekend, but I've got a busted front driveshaft right now.. Getting a new one installed next weekend along with some lower adjustable control arms. We'll have to plan something after that so I can meet everyone and go on a ride!

Sucks about the driveshaft. I just replaced my front DS with a coast double cardin. What are you going with?

I hope he's ok. there's a leash for pets that attaches to the seat belt on your seat, to keep them from trying to fly'

Dude...just got done cleaning. Have you lifted your hood yet...
I'm very impressed with your balls out approach with the new jeep. It took me a while to get mine dirty. I really want a set of trek armor seat covers.

Oh and for a CB maybe TJnewbie could shed some light on that stuff. I have no idea about swr meters and stuff.

I had a blast. Nice meeting you guys.

As far as the CB goes, it's really just what you want. My CB's have always been Cobras, but Unidin put's out a good radio too. And then there are the Big dogs like Connex and General Lee- ect. Some are are small and compact with others are big with more features, than just the CB radio. The CB I had with me yesterday also has a Weather Alert Band on it, and it will alert you if you're on the trail and a National weather bulletin broadcasts. My radio also has a built-in SWR meter in it.

Normally you need 18' of coaxle cable to make your SWRs as low as possible. Just loosely coil up the excess and hide it in the trunk or someplace out of the way. If you get a low watt radio (4watt) then get a Francis Hot Rod antenna- at least a 4 foot, if you can find the 5.5 foot it would be better (they are very good, give a very low SWR and are the least expensive, they come in black, red and white), they have them at most truck stops- The T/A truckstop in Mobile off of I-10 exit 4, or the Pilot at exit 13. and the Love's truckstop at exit 44 on I-10.

It's best to get your radio "Peaked and Tuned" it's a term that describes fine tuning the CB above and beyond the factory settings. There is a radio shop across the Highway from the T/A truckstop, that can do this. And there are other things the radio shop can install in your radio to make it recieve and transmit further. out of the box if properly set up as I described, it should work for 1 to 3 miles. The one I had with me yesterday has been modified with a "hop-up kit" and a larger "Final", it get's out about 8 miles. You either power it with a cigarette lighter plug, or hard-wire it to the battery, (or ignition power source). The mount for the antenna should be a fixed metal structure like the rear bumper or a body mount. some people mount thier antenna on the tail gate, but this doesn't provide the best ground because of the hinge on the door.

You can always opt for the hand held like the one Kaila used yesterday, which worked very well while we were in close formation, but they don't generally have much range, usually less than a mile.

I was planing on taking a break from 4wheeling this weekend (just washed the Jeep), but some of the Mobile Jeep Club people invited me to go back out there with them this Sunday. They were the people in the Honda Ridgeline that we saw on the first trail on Saturday. They are going to bring thier jeeps this time. So.. if anyone wants to come along, y'all are welcome to.
