Unstable Drivability

I have an 09 JK with 27,000 miles and the drivability is at times unstable when on the highway. At times the jeep can either pull to the left or to the right depending on the road articulation; so much that there is no control on the steering. I have a 3" lift on 33" tires. I also feel a clicking on the steering wheel. The local shop said I need a new steering box. Has anyone experienced anything like this?

Haven't experienced that with mine. I have a 2011 with 6000, and the only highway thing I have experience is sometimes at about 70mph the whole Jeep seems to shudder, but I don't feel anything through the steering wheels, as soon as I drop below 65 it stops. Not sure what causes it.

Your pulling may have something to do with your toe in/out.

I also have an 09 with 33" tires and a 2.5" lift and have not had any such problems similar to yours. I have read that the steering box on the JK is a bit weak. The literature I read stated that those who were running heavy 37'' tires and larger were more prone to failure of the steering boxes and currently no one is manufacturing a kit to rebuild them. So if it is the steering box it probably will need to be replaced. Odd that your should give out, but could be just one of those bad ones.

Thanks for your feed back. We'll see how this turns out.
