Its been a while since I post here, but recently was informed I might be sent to Florida, near tampa for a year long mission.
I want to buy a used Jeep while I'm there, cash hopefully, around 7k or so. Thing is I am not a vehicle-savy person, and although I know my TJ 98 very well and have worked on her often I am better off selling her in Puerto Rico where she is worth more and re-buying another jeep in FL.
Is there a recommended place to buy jeeps in FL? I will make sure to take some one with me when I do buy one, and was planning on searching Craigslist and ebay while there too. What reference do you guys use to estimate value? Kelly Bluebook? That doesnt really work down here since most jeeps cost an additional 4k just to import to PR so the values down here are higher than stateside.
Also, is there something State specific I should pay attention too? Like in northern states I was warned to check for salt damage, here in PR the weather ( specialy the rain) gives the paint a beating and the roads are terrible in some parts so just driving to work sometimes feels like mild offroading.
I might buy a cheap clunker first to buy me time to search carefully for a good deal.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
