With Regards to Safety Gear

The Withlacoochee thread brought up some safety gear conversations and now I have some questions. While off-roading, if a Park Ranger pulls a driver over, are there things they look for? While not all inclusive, the "Big 3" are the main reasons I can think of for getting stopped while off-roading:

- Operating at an unsafe speed
- Operating under the influence
- Operating in an area off limits to motor vehicles

What about other things such as seat belts? Are seat belts required while operating off road? Is there a required minimum amount of safety equipment that they can check for? I consulted Dr Google and found this website:

http://www.freshfromflorida.com/Divi...OHV/OHV-Safety

This web page mainly addresses the operation of motorcycles and 4 wheelers while under the age of 16 on public land. Near the bottom, there is a list of suggestions that I think encompasses some good ideas.

I believe if the vehicle you're operating has seatbelts, you and your passengers should wear them. I've never been stopped.. I think helmets and stuff like that are required for 4wheelers and dirtbikes, but for jeeps and trucks that are street legal it is not a requirement.
To be safe it wouldnt be a bad idea to have a simple first aid kit with burn creams antiseptic ointments, bandages, sting ease, aspirin, alcohol wipes, rape whistle etc etc. I also carry quick clot in my first-aid in hopes of never having to use it.

I know in Withlacoochee there are no requirements other than seatbelts but you should always take a first aid kit I carry a shovel a winch first aid kit xtra flashlights I have survival kit with nutrition bars and it has a emerg blanket compass lighter 8 6oz water packets hunting knife nylon string Machete and an Ax tow straps and of course you never leave home without your 45 acp and xtra mags. these are all things you will gather along the way. you never know when you could end up stuck out over night but the biggest and best way to ensure fun always go with someone else it's too easy to get into trouble if you are not careful oh well I think I have blabbed enough just go have fun.

This! We decided to go out just the two of us and I thought we should take both jeeps, hubby was like "nah" so we just took mine. Big mistake, I decided to take a berm and got stuck with not a single tire on the ground, had to walk a mile to a construction site and beg for a quick pull.

As for your original question, I don't think there is anything they can get you on for my having aside from seatbelt a and they *probably* won't stop you for that. I know a lot of clubs will require you to have certain safety gear to rude out with them; recovery straps (first thing I bought for my jeep), shovel, HiLo jack and stabilizer, first aid kit, flashlights, fire extinguisher. All stuff that's pretty common sense.
