well the smart alec answer would be don't shut it off. it has been sub 0 here the last couple of mornings and mine sits out and you ought to hear it groan until it warms up. I think just using quality synthetic is about the best you can do. I have an engine heater and plug mine in.
My 2015 does the same thing. Can't say that I'm crazy about it either, but it doesn't seem to hurt anything. Mine has done that since new and it has 20,000 miles on it now.
My wife's and daughters did the same thing, I get three free oil changes per vehicle from my dealership, anyway, I found out jeep is breaking in engines with conventional bulk oil from 55 gallon drums, and that's what the dealership uses for oil changes unless you specifically ask for Penz Platinum. I changed over all three of my 2015's and the tick is gone and never came back. A fiend of mine at work has a Grand Cherokee with 30,000 miles, did the same thing, only he ran valvoline syn. On my Rubi, I had them change it out before I left the lot after learning the aforementioned information.
Transition to Pennzoil Utra Platinum Plus; 5w30 summer; 5w20 winter.
I'm not sure the dry starts are really dry starts as history dictates.
That oil pump is operating at 80psi when you fire it up - remember there are other mechanical factors involved. The injectors, long-ass DOHC chain, cam phasers, etc.
My big-ass 2002 496ci Chevy van makes noise at first start - using conventional or synthetic.
As I have always understood it some oil filter types keep the oil galleries pressurized (or even just filled with oil) even after you've stopped the engine and that in and of itself helps specifically cure unpressurized start-up rattles and such. (I know Toyota is particularly particular about it's filters for this reason)
I'm no expert but maybe the Pstar 3.6 doesn't have this type of filtration system, and the oil pressure falls to zero once engine off, and the noises caused by the lack of pressure until the galleries get oil back up to all the things needing it?
14k on my 2015 that sits in a carport overnight. I either run 5w20 or 0w20 Penns Platinum. The startup clatter doesn't happen nearly as much as my 2012 did but it still happens randomly and doesn't seem to matter which oil weight.
