Not released an official date and time yet. Said to be early in 2017

It's also been said that the JL will be on the trails during the Easter Jeep Safari also, which means there'll be reporters packed in Moab like sardines.

My favorite quote from the press release.. sad but true: "Chrysler claims its products, especially the Jeeps, can handle all sorts of terrible conditions, churning through muddy swamps, climbing mountains, and crossing rivers. Turns out they cannot even handle a car wash."

I would guess we would see it shown in the Detroit Auto show in January. At least that's what I'm hoping.

When the TJ and JK were first shown, did they announce when they would be debuting? The Detroit show is just shy of over a month away; when would they officially announce the date?

I can't find it anymore but I read that the exception on rigidity rules for softtop vehicles will be removed sometime in 2017. That means softtop vehicles will need to be more rigid than they need to be now. The changes to the softtop we hear about on the JL, l think, are for rigidity.

All this to say I wonder if they are not waiting to the last minute to release the JL. The JK is selling well and probably more profitable than the JL.

Would anyone have more information on that rule change? The date might tell us when they will start selling the JL.

No hard date, but we've been discussing this in other threads for a long time. Federal safety rules are the reason the "sport bar" is going away from the Wrangler, and the windshield won't fold anymore, and the front bumper won't have as much gap between the fender.

The date for order banks to open on JL is late fall 2017, with production scheduled to begin mid November. The JK will finish out the 2018 model year as it's last, so that there'll be about a six month overlap where you can buy either a JK or JL. A year from now things will be very interesting.

Is there any update on when we'll see the JL debut?

We've seen the Detroit Auto Show, the New York Auto Show, and the Easter Jeep Safari come and go without any news.

I mean, the Trackhawk and the Demon sure are nice, but the market for those is pretty small.

LA Auto Show at the end of the year as announced in January.

New Jeep Wrangler may debut in the fall - The Blade

We were all hoping for the Safari or NYAS to be a nearer term pre-launch of at least some official details, but nope, Nada.

Looks like they will launch once they can roll a few initial test units off the line first, and that won't happen 'til the fall.

To me that means that some components are so new they can't show off even a non-driving static AutoShow version until they have components off the production line, which is a bit exciting as well as worry-some. The aluminium bits are harder to 'hand-form' vs stamping on a dedicated die setup, so final versisons of doors, hood, and tailgate may need to wait for the unit(s) to be in place/programmed @ Sterling or Warren. Meaning lotsa nice weight-saving bits.
Now the drawback to that might be that there are potential significant departures in the final product from the test mules spied driving around, which means 'we ain't seen nothin yet', and our thoughts about leaked/spied hoods, doors, etc may simply be of bits on test mule that are different from production, where they test themes, like the fender lights, but not entire structures like the next generation roof panels, doors, etc.

Looks like it will be quite a long while before we can satisfy that itch for seeing the final product in launch form.

The concepts at Easter Jeep Safari actually did give us visual clues at the JL. But yeah, Manley is now saying he'll take the JL to the LA Auto Show this fall.

The leaked photos are coming out at an increasing pace now, so by summer I bet we'll pretty much know everything about the vehicle.

The new Recon special edition they showed off recently is awesome. I hope the Recon bumpers and rails are an option on the JL Rubicon.
