Brent Snavely of the Detroit Free Press interview Mike Manley, head of the Jeep and Ram brand for Fiat Chrysler Automobiles about Jeep Patriot and Compass upgrade. During the interview:
"Manley also said the development of the next generation Jeep Wrangler is nearly complete, and he expects that it will go on sale during the first half of 2017.
The new Wrangler will weigh less and get better fuel economy than the current Wrangler"
We shall see.
If I recall when I ordered my 2012 the day the order banks opened, I had it delivered 2 to 2 1/2 months after placing the order. I'd imagine that the 2018's would be about the same. My guess is they'll stick to the same schedule of May - June 2017 order banks open up.
Based on his statement of it going on sale in the first half of 2017 I would expect an April release like the 1997 Wrangler. I would expect the unveil at the Jan auto shows and ordering banks opening in February. Just a guess.
That's close to what I was thinking. They'll run a few test vehicles out over winter to make sure the factory is ready and send a few out to the auto shows. Then dealers will be able to order in early spring but it'll take a few months for the first to be seen at the dealers.
I have also seen the JL listed as having the order banks opening mid-year 2017 for a release in September as a 2018 model, which is what we see most of the time with Jeep. If they move it up a year t a 2017 model, we would then see order banks open this year, which I don't see happening - though I could be wrong.
Inside sources have been saying for a long while that production is scheduled to begin in LATE fall of 2017...possibly around November. So they'll be hitting dealers 1st quarter 2018 if they stay on the current schedule.
