i will have to get the exit number off 85 for you. theres only one trail and its probably less than a half mile. its mostly occupied by the local 1500 series trucks with 40's playing in the countless mudpits. but if you ever ride through give me a shout and ill be more than glad to show you around.

The SCFFC (North and South Carlina Flat Fender Club) meet will be in Charleston, SC on April 13th. This is the same day we had planned our swap meet. They were planning a small swap meet also. So being true Jeepers, we have decided to combine the two into a big Jeep swap meet. There will also be a show. It is all free. They expect 150 vehicles, and our club should be good for about 50 more. So make your plans now. Check them out at http://ncffc.freeforums.net/index.cg...hread=9&page=1

They are also raffling of this Column Shift CJ2A- http://ncffc.freeforums.net/index.cg...play&thread=22
And check us out at http://www.facebook.com/#!/groups/279595498764821/ or look us up on Facebook at Charleston Area Jeep Spot, 240 members and counting.

There's a few of us that plan on getting a gulches trip together. Will post up whenever we get a date set! Oh & the trails round Jocassee are pretty good too but they're not as extreme as what you can get into at gulches.

Does anybody have a good way to tell me where the trails are around Jocassee? A guy I know on here has a map that has them marked, but I haven't been able to find anything online that was a good guide.

Yeah I've seen lake jocasee come up more than once now and I think it's closer than gulches park so I will more than likely be headed in that general area sometime this weekend.

I can't remember exactly how we got there. It was last yr & I was just following the group. I think it was called Jocassee Gorges if that helps.

Jocassee Gorges is a DNR property that's only open during big game hunting seasons. Its all gravel roads. Fun place to get out and spend some time, but don't expect any kind of off road challenge. I was up there a few days ago and didn't need 4wd at all. That's the Pickens county side anyway. There are 2 entrances to that part of the property. One is off of Cleo Chapman Road near the Vineyards Fire Dept. The other is off of Hwy. 178 just above Rocky Bottom. About 50 miles of open roads in there with some good views and a few primitive camping areas. If you go make sure you read the rules posted at the entrances and stay on the roads. DNR law enforcement does patrol the area. I think the gates are open now till May 10 and then will be closed till September. There's also part of the property in Oconee County and some more that has to be accessed from North Carolina. Those sections are a little rougher but I don't know as much about them.

I just rode Jocassee this past Sunday. I let my 17 year old son drive the jeep for the first time, off road for his first time as well. Its easy gravel roads that have some bumps, and steep areas that may spit gravel behind if you have it in 2wd. One 50ft downhill scaired him, so I put it in 4 and eased down. The ruts were about 15-20 inches deep. With all the rain on Sunday, the creek crossing was up to my door. A buddy took a pic and it on my Facebook if you want to look (Kent Matthew)
The entrance from 178 is N of Rockey Bottom right at a bridge that is in sharp corners of 178. Almost a Z in the road. It looks like a tiny parking lot. Drive through. Like has been mentioned it closes May 10 so time is short. I hope to try out the Seneca side in a couple weeks. Its called Muter ground something or other.
Also, upstate people, there is a big jeep club that is family fun oriented called Upstate Legends Jeep Club. There were 4 if us that went Sunday in the rain. A couple weeks before, there were 35 jeeps on mountain fire roads like a dang parade. It was fun. Sign up website and Facebook. The originate in Pickens and Oconee area, so that's where most of the fun is.

Kent! Had fun riding with you on Sunday. We couldn't have picked a better day and it was nice that there were only 4 of us. I doubt I'll make it back up there before it closes, but I'd like too go up again in the fall. Do you know if the Muster Grounds keep the same dates?

Look forward to seeing you again soon.

I *think* its always open. I haven't looked into it since we talked, cuz I can't make it for at least 2 weeks. We'll find out and hit it.
