Laser Eye Surgery Docs in NC?

My husband decided it's due past time I stop being so blind; I guess he's tired of waiting for me to "take out my eyes" and "put them back in" every day, haha. He gave me the go ahead to get laser eye surgery. Anyone here have references, good or bad, of places to call anywhere Raleigh and eastward?

Well guys, I did it! Today is my ninth anniversary with my dear Gregory and he brought me to a lovely bed and breakfast (Twin Lakes Lodge for a few days stay / anniversary celebration and this morning I had the procedure done and WOW I can surely see! The staff and surgeon were great and apparently they were using a new machine on me and there was a huge viewing group; I don't remember the name of this specific Lasic machine but there are only seven worldwide. Dr. Stonecipher was my doc / surgeon in Greensboro and Dr. Marino did all of my pre-op consult in Ralegh. I have a follow up in the morning with Dr. Stonecipher, he was kind enough to say come a few hours late for our 8:00 am appt, understanding that we'd like to enjoy our time here and maybe sleep a bit late! And the other nice thing is that all following check ups over this year on my procedure can be done with my local eye doctor.

So far, so good! no regrets! It's amazing to SEE!!! No contacts, no glasses! I started wearing glasses at five years old so I really knew nothing else!

I've been considering the procedure for about a year now. How bad was your vision? I am currently -4.75 both eyes. Sounds like it was a good experience for you.

Just stuff in general. But putting mud tires back on her is coming within the next couple of weeks.

Just my .02 on getting your eyes fixed.

I absolutely love it!

I had the correction done 6 months ago...had to have PRK rather than the newer Lasik because of a thin spot on my cornea.

The difference is that they remove the epthilium (cornea membrane) rather than cutting a 'flap'. The recovery time was longer: about three days to be functional (i.e. back to work)..and about 3 months for the vision to get dialed in (in other words each week it got better and better as the membrane completely regrew)... but the results are outstanding.

I had worn glasses for distance my whole life (35+years). I am now at 20/10~
If my eyes get any better I would be able to see thru walls or into the future!

The only drawback is now that I can see distance, my close up vision went south; but that is just age catching up with me...when I was nearsighted, it offset the normal farsightedness associcated with middle age.

I was offered to have one eye corrected for distance, and one eye done for reading. My brother does this with contact lenses and says "you get used to it"...but I think that would drive me nuts so opted for both eyes corrected for distance and bought my first pair of cheapo 'readers' at walgreens..

I did not experience any of the possible side effects like chronic dry eyes or halos on lights.

Wish I had done this years ago!

I had Lasik in 99 (also got glasses at 5 years old) and it's been great. But, just like the doctor's told me then, Lasik will not stop the issues that aging brings on. In other words: it's not permanent. Right now I need to go back to see my eye doctor and possibly look at reading glasses. Might go contacts.

Might just have my eyes done again.
