Moving to NC

I'm moving to Durham/Raleigh area at the end of the month to start a new job. I will be looking for some jeepers (of course). I am currently looking for a place to call home.

Any good ideas on places to live in / around the area, I don't mind a 30 min drive to work.

Also, food spots, jeep spots, etc.....

and go.......................

North Durham is nice, just stay north of Latta Rd. Cole Mill Rd area is also nice. Durham has its spots of "rough areas" but I enjoy it here.

Where are you working? That will help steer you in the closer direction.

I believe the building is the EPA building in RTP, which is on W Alexander Dr. I don't mind a little drive, but the YJ ain't the best on gas or speed.....so 30 minutes or so is ok, possibly 45 if i can find something at the right $$$

North Durham area, Butner or Creedmoor in Granville Co. would be ok and in your 30 minute or less window.
I can put you in touch with a heck of a realtor that will show you a bunch if you'd like.

Thanks. That would be great. I'm in AZ this week and next, then have 3 days to clear our of my current job, pack, get to Jeep Week in OC and then start working that Monday after. I have a temporary room set up, but that would help a lot in finding a place to actually call home shortly after.

Assuming you're single...no wife and kids to factor into the equation? Lots of apartments in the RDU area due to to all the universities. Yeah, Durham will be closer than Raleigh and both have a great night life for single guys. If you're looking for something a little quieter than college towns, Morrisville might be a good choice and it's real close.

Fiance will be moving down after I find a place. Niether one of us is into the "night life". Either way, I can't wait to be back down south where I belong.

I'd look into apartments in Morrisville or maybe even Cary if you don't care about bars and clubbing then. Both will be quieter than living close to campus.

Check on 54 durham near the intersection of 55 durham. or near morrisville if you want an easy drive close to work. There are several places near the EPA building for rent actually. Some are short term lease options and about to lose their summer interns so should be opening up as well.

x2 on the short term lease if you're not familiar with the area. I know that realtors, US census, developers, etc. like to pretend that the Triangle is one location, but it's not. Each community is entirely distinct and offers a different lifestyle. A few basic rules:

1. Cary = Concentrated Area of Relocated Yankees
2. "Raleigh-Durham" is just the name of an airport, not the name of any real place. You live in Durham, you live in Raleigh, or somewhere nearby.
3. Traffic here sucks if you're having to commute on I-40, Hwy 70, or other clogged arteries. People from Atlanta, DC, Houston, California, will say "oh it's not bad,"But they're full of it.
4. Most realtors and Wake County folks will act like Durham is a third world country. It's not - it's fantastic. Let 'me keep thinking that and they'll leave plenty of room for the rest of us.

I am of course entirely biased given my profile and username, but I've lived in a lot of places, and I love living in Durham proper.

My wife and I just bought a house up near briar creek. We love it. Quick jump onto 40 right down the road from the 4wheelparts store.

North Raleigh is pretty nice and affordable. If you find something close to 540, RTP is only about 15min away.

I live there and work next to RDU, takes me about 12min to get to/from work.

There are a ton of great areas and I agree with getting a short term lease until you get more acquainted with the area.
