Do they charge the campground fees for kids? That makes it a bit steeper in cost if they do.

I see on their website they charge $15/adult and $7/child, is that accurate for this weekend as well?

I am afraid so, BigDaddy ... the Cove campground is pretty firm in their insistence, even though I tell them they are losing customers by charging every member of the family for camping.

Sorry

It's really not that bad overall, but still I'm looking at almost $100 for the camping portion. the overall tally of $180 for 2 adults/2 kids for a weekend of wheeling isn't all that bad though.

I attend the VA4WDA Annual Trail Ride at Oak Ridge in September every year.

I figured out the difference ... the Annual is a social event with a few trails mixed in ... the Members Only Ride is a trail ride with some social time mixed in.

I find the Cove trails much more challenging since even the access roads are 4x4. The addition of hot showers and flush toilets makes it a better weekend for me. But I am going to keep trying to get a Family Discount. Big Dog has started a new trail nearby in WV and I am going to use that competition to negotiate with the Cove ownership.

Yeah, I have been to Oak Ridge a couple of times (going my 3rd time in April), and been out to help clear some of the trails with Chaos in Capon Bridge... there's going to be more options in the area for sure. I would like to check out the Cove soon, since I've heard good things about it, but I don't think that weekend is going to workout for me. With going to Oak Ridge in April, and hopefully hitting the Chaos event at the end of May, I can only take so many weekends off from my kids soccer teams...since I'm the coach, lol.

"Icebreaker" at the Cove last weekend was awesome. Over 200 registered rigs from all over Virginia and Maryland, and as far away as Ohio, Niagara Falls, New Jersey, and North Carolina decided the Cove is THE PLACE to wheel in Virginia.

Virginia 4-Wheel Drive members have the entire place to ourselves May 16-18.

Only twenty paid reservations so far. How cool is it when you can run with a string of only 5-6 rigs on some of the toughest trails around? No more waiting for "that guy" with the 2-Gen Blazer with 2 snow tires and one bald highway tread trying to get over a tree. If you really want to wheel, this is a great opportunity.

join the fun! Start to Finish this is a great time for the whole family
