yep thats the one. i've hit it these past two days this weekend and had a blast in that little mud hole. nothing too special but i put her into 2wd and let the mud fly. haha. Actually got pulled over by a cop cuz I was stopped at the stop sign on the 311 side and was putting my door uppers in the back and apparently thats not too legal around here. had a blast though. going mudding with Work4Mud tomorrow which is gonna be hella fun i'm sure. Next weekend you'll have to join us.

Here are a few pictures from me and Work4Mud's New Years Eve trip. Just a couple in the pit and a shot of both our rigs in the creek on the catawba side of the trail. One picture is from today's trip with my neighbor whose also a new Jeep owner. Pictures may not show up but if you click on them they show up in a new tab. Hopefully they'll work right.

I have to chime in on this thread because I grew up in Roanoke. No longer live there but if I did I'd be all over Catawba Mountain. Lots of places up there.

its not actually on catawba road, you have to make a couple of turns on that road, one end comes out close to catawba road, the other end is on Route 311

I saw the posts about the fines you could get up there. I see no trespasing signs here and there on that trail but I dont venture off the trail if I see a sign. Where some of the other trails are and that mud hole there are no signs or anything so im not worried about it.

I climbed over there once and thought about going up there but changed my mind. Busted my brake light I had mounted in the hitch receiver, oh well. That field would be an awesome spot to camp out at. Not sure if thats do-able, id hate to get fined but would love to camp out, build a fire, have some brews and talk jeep stuff.

Yea, I guess the angle I came out at was such that I banged the light. Not sure how but just one of those things. I saw that dude being a dick, I tried to cut him down any way I could. There is no need to bash someone for no reason, he is an idiot. I think that camping out there would be awesome, Id want to do a little research though. Find out what kinda land that is whether some kind of national forest (although I doubt it) private property, public land or whatever and if its ok to camp there. Doubt there are too many people rolling through there anyway so I doubt anyone would come by to bust our balls about it. I know Green Monster, my brother and me would be down. If nothing else, lets go ride it this week. Me and Green Monster (Trey) have been wheeling hardcore this past week. Lets keep it going, lol.

Y'all have been lighting this forum up. I have to say this has been one hell of a start to 2011 for sure. Great day of wheeling New Years Eve, got wild at a party that night, went wheeling the very next day with an epic hangover, then tore up some Eagle Rock mud today. I've got pics of my aftermath as well. I'll get em posted in this next post once I get em into my email. And Work4Mud, my buddy wants to go a day or two this week back up to Broad Run and hit the whole trail clear across the mountain since we only went to the Pit from the 311 side last time. And Wrangler06 hit us up this week and we'll meet up with you to hit some trails. We're always looking for more Jeepers to add to the convoy. Gets kinda lonely with just two jeeps on a trail. haha. And camping sounds bad a$$ Ben. Let me know what your research turns up.

George Washington & Jefferson National Forests - Patterson Mountain Off Road Vehicle Trail

As for camping on broad run, I havnt found much. Nothing that say you cant but not sure if you can. Id be down for just doing it anyway, lol. Whats the worse that would happen, we have to leave? Im off work Wednesday and then Saturday I think. Lets do something!

Here is my rig after our romp in the mud today in Eagle Rock. The third picture is just to show how much mud got caked on my mirrors (even though its missing all three screws and hangs loose making it completely useless lol). And the last picture is random but its just to let everyone see what my old off road rig used to look like. 1996 Ford F150 Eddie Bauer w/ 6 in. RC lift and 35x12.50x15 BFG A/T KO's.

I tried for months to sell it but then the Jeep I've got now came down the pipe on CL and I jumped all over it. So you'll probably see my truck driving around Roanoke a few times before winter is over. But i've heard GW National Forest is some pretty sweet riding. but I'll look all of the stuff over and see what my buddy has going on and we'll get something worked out for this week. Other than job hunting I'll have nothing else to do. We'll figure something out.

Potts Mt. is another good trail I've heard about. Saw it in that one link. And its only about 45 minutes to Blacksburg. Might try that one out next weekend. But the Patterson Mt. Trail looks like it may just be for ATVs and dirt bikes. Doesn't say anything about any other vehicles but ATVs and dirt bikes. I'd be willing to still ride up there and see and if not we'll hit that mud in ER again since we'll be up there anyways. haha.

I'm down anytime you guys are free. And if we end up not being able to find a spot to camp we'll just play around on the trails for a while and still make the best of it. But worse comes to worse I'd be willing to put some blankets down in the back of my Jeep since I don't have a back seat and sleep in there and just park in the turn around behind the mud pit. Maybe if i can't sleep I'll take some runs through the pit to calm me down and put me back to sleep.

There is the open spot behind the pit and a other large open area about 1/4 of the way down the trail from the Catawba side that are ideal for camping. I just wired up my windshield lights so if we camp I wanna do some night wheelin!

Yeah those lights would be perfect for some night wheelin. My two lights are wicked bright so we would definitely being doing some night runs up the trail. I'd actually rather sleep in the Jeep than on a paper thin bottom of a tent. Just gotta take this L shaped bracket out of the middle in the back seat area or else I'll have one bad nights sleep. Any night in particular this week or next weekend you'd want to go camping? My aunt and uncle have plenty of supplies we could take with us too that I'm sure they wouldn't mind us borrowing. They go camping regularly over the summer in their little pop up camper. They go all out too. Whenever you want to go I'm down. If i had a chance to sight in my muzzleloader and could figure out which land is public to hunt on up there I'd love to spend a weekend up there hunting, wheeling, and chilling by the campfire.

I don't think my big ass would be too comfortable sleeping in my jeep, lol. I'm off wednesday though and Saturday I think. Tuesday night would work.

alright. that would work for me too. whenever you get on Wrangler06 let us know if that works for you. And it might be a bit of a challenge to fit my tall lanky ass in the back of my Jeep but I'll make it work. And I cleaned out all the stink bugs from under the wheel well covers so I won't have any uninvited guests in my sleeping bag. haha.
