6/7-9/13? A 3 month trail ride might be a bit long, lol

do people typically camp or stay in the hotel listed on the site? also..should bringing a 12 and 5 year old be avoided?

This is my second Big Dogs. My kids joined us but they are almost 23. My family had a blast and can't wait to go back. There will be plenty of young kids at this event. In fact, I was a bit envious of some the rigs they were passengering. I'd say 5 years old is pushing it if you intend to get some extended wheeling time in. Your 12 y/o should love it though. They do have a swimming lake, too.

Camp vs. hotel. I prefer camping because part of the draw is hanging out with other wheelers. I went to the BD Ice Breaker not knowing anyone. The Maryland Elements Offroad group was camping next to me so we hung out with them and it made it very enjoyable. We wouldn't have had that experience if we stayed at a hotel. I do stay at a hotel when I go to Rausch Creek, though. The only thing about Big Dogs camping is that it's not exactly quiet at night, even with quiet hours, and it's pretty dusty with all the vehicle traffic. I'm hoping the temps aren't too warm at night time for this coming event. Stay away from the party camp, Camp 6. We stayed in Camp 2 and it was fine. One recommendation if you do decide to camp; get a site towards to end the camp so that you get less traffic and dust.

Post up if you are going to the Big Dogs Ice Breaker this coming weekend. I'm headed out early Thursday morning and will probably set up at Camp 2.

So I'm thinking maybe, since my kids will be gone this weekend. Do I need to put my doors and top back on? lol

That would be great if you came. I'm staying with the Maryland Elements Offroad club in Camp 2.

While other folks may be disagree, I say, "Yes! Put your doors and top on." It gets very dusty when wheeling with 300 of your best friends. Also, if we had the warm weather that we've been having having your A/C is kinda nice.

Mud is not too much of a problem at The Cove though.

Argh!!!! I spent two hours dismantling the jeep today. I'm sure it won't be as hard to put back together, but I did want a naked jeep for a couple of weeks.

That was just my opinion. There are lots of folks who wheel topless/doorless at Big Dogs. I ate a lot of dust on gun jeeps in the Army and never gave it a second thought. In my old age and decrepitude I go with comfort.
