Thumbs up Edinburg VA. Today!!

So Today My son And I ventured out on our first Trail Ride!!!! We headed down to Edinburg VA, Just east down Fort Valley / Edinburg Gap Rd. on the down side there are 2 areas. Peters Mill Run and Taskers Gap Trails.
We chose the Peters Mill run. Towards the Left. I have to say for our 1st trail ride, The Jeep did a Awesome Job. Chose this Trail Because of the Easier Rating. Not real sure if I would give it a straight Easy Rating but None the less we Made it all the way thru and had a Blast doing So. So we would really like to get a bunch together and explore some more of the trails in that area. But for now being all Stock I want to keep them to the milder side. So If anyone in or around the area would be interested in getting together for a meet and greet and some trail riding, let us know.

Stay Safe!!!

RicK G.....

We will be going back up on Saturday September the 3rd if interested. The Trails are about 20 minutes east of interstate 81.... in Edinburg Va., I live about 20 miles north of the area. Myself and a few Friends will be going. ( Good Guy's, Non Jeepers Though ).... but Alright people. It takes me about 2.5 hrs from my house to Va Beach . So some where right around there would be a guestamation ,, Lol of you time of travel. you would want to take 95nrth to rt17 west to i66. to 81south. Nice Drive...just about all open driving with the exception of right when you get off 95 onto 17 you have some shopping areas.... and such...not a bad drive. Just let me know if you are intrested and we can set up a meet spot to Ride...There are also quite a few miles of ATV trails there as well if that intrest you also...........fyi......

Sounds like much fun! I am in northern VA and would like to hook up for that sometime as someone totally new to Jeeps. I doubt I will do the next one you guys had planned being that I will have only had mine a couple days by then, but definitely interested in future trips. Have fun!

Rick, thanks for the info. I've been thinking of going out to GWNF - Peters Mill Run myself. I've never been so there. How long did it take you to go through the trail? Out of curiosity...what made it a "not straight easy rating"? If my weekend plans fall through I might take you up on the trip this Saturday. I'll PM you if I'm in.

Will...I too am from northern virginia. PM me if you ever head out there to hit the trails.

The Section that we did took approx 3.5 hrs. With the amount of trails that are in that area im sure we could have spent all day playing around. That section of P M Run is appox 6. miles or so. As for the not straight easy rating. Not that it was Difficult for our 1st time. A good bit of rocks. No major climbing. The side that we went in on has a few steep hills, 1 being fairly steep with all loose Shale. Not anything that i would want to have to stop on half way up. Some Would think it was easy im sure. But like i said our 1st time. Towards the end of the trail, the last 2 miles or so is fairly easy. If you are running a 33" or anything bigger than my stock than you will not have any problem at all. I am pretty sure we will still be going Sat, let me know if you are def interested and we can meet up sometime Sat Morn If you Want.........Hopefully we get a little more rain before then and there will be Some Good Mud!!!!

Please post any plans for a future trip. I'm down at Ft Belvoir and would like to hit some trails, but would rather not go solo. I've been out there years ago on the bike, I look forward to taking the Jeep.

I just did Peters Mill with my Jeep club last week. I know what you mean about it being rated easy but there are a couple of rocky sections that I scraped since mine is stock.

I'm in Northern VA too so I'm definitely interested in future rides out there.

I am definetly interested to know if they plan on re-opening the lower Half of the loop on the peters mill trial and the Taskers gap section. I know they were shut down to flood damage a while back. Not sure exactly when. from what i have heard from a few others is the tasker gap is a littler more challenging. The lower section of petersmill run from what i have heard also has a few more stream crossings but was
or used to be less rocky as the upper portion. The 1st time a few weeks back we went up ( original post ) i scraped the underside twice , nothing major. we went back up this past friday and had a good bit more fun. A few good spots of mud. this time around i was aware of the spots and was able to manuver around them. All stock here as well. But would like for all of us to be able to get together and ride. I am not opposed to other areas either, if you guys have an area that you are familiar with let me know. After the play in the mud last week i think i will be investing in a snorkle kit eventually. Just to be safe. was amazed by the amount that made it to the inside bottom side of the hood area. But had a blast. Spent about 5 hrs Sat morn cleaning up the mess. But was well worth the fun that my son and I had together!!!!!!

I love that trail! Used to hike, bike, and wheel (with my stock XJ) on that all through high school.

That's a shame that some of it was (still is?) closed.

Not sure it will work out this week, I definitely want to catch the next one though. I still need my engine skid and to install my bumpstops

I would sure like to join in if you have time to help a rookie. I've had my Wrangler Sport (still stock) for several years but have never taken it on a trail. I also wanted to be part of this thread so I could see if a trip is forming that would be willing to help a rookie. I want to try my hand at a trail but at the same time I don't want to be a drag on a more experienced group. Edinburg is about 2 hours from my home.

In a few weeks I want to explore GWNF with my brother and a friend once my brother is on winter break from college. We'd probably camp out on a Friday night and wheel Saturday then come home that night. Would any of you guys be willing to guide us? Or is it easy enough to navigate by ourselves? I have 3.75" of lift, 33s, and about to get an engine skid, but my buddy is completely stock besides 31" duratracs.
