Flag Pole 26 April

Would like to plan a trip to Flagpole on 26 April. Everyone's welcome, nothing like going with a bunch of fellow jeepers for the day. Anyone who hasn't been yet this is good opportunity to break your jeep in on some fairly easy terrain with great views.

I was thinking we could do the usual meetup at Sheetz in Haymarket then head to Harrisonburg Sheetz to hook up with others not from NOVA.

So let's start planning a trip.

I'm a maybe at this point. Still not sure I want to mangle the brand new GC.

Not even sure how a stock GC with factory tires would do there. The Rubicon glided over everything in sight, but this is a different animal.

I am down for April 26th. Though it does conflict with Big Dogs.

I want go to Big Dogs, but this being my first trip back since my clutch blew out and with a new lift, I wanted to go easy. Last year instead we did Bantam jeep festival and Topless for Tata's. Both were a blast, but beyond my Rubicon's abilities. Can't wait to get back to Rausch Creek, still debating Bantam. It was really way beyond what my jeep could do. Got winched out 3 times.

The level 3 and 4 trails at big dogs are totally doable with a stock rig. I them with my stock Sahara last year. I had fun.

Surprisingly, I have this day off so I would like to come. I just got my Jeep in January and came from a sports car. I don't know anything about my Jeep yet or about off roading. Hopefully I don't get in too far over my head. I will also try and get my soft top by then so hopefully some nice soul can teach me the basics of removing and installing hard and soft tops. I live in Ashburn so I suppose I will just meet everyone at a Sheetz in Haymarket at a given time and will go from there.

NoVA,

Flagpole is a great place to begin to learn some of the basics of 4wheeling on a forgiving course, with great scenery.

Both Dan and I have run it many times, and it is always fun. Hopefully the weather will cooperate and be warm enough for top down goodness. We will run no matter the weather tho. However, I do have to say running Flagpole in the snow and ice is the most exciting.

He's right about that. I went about 2 weeks ago and there was still snow on the ground in places. Definitely made the run a lot more fun!

I would love to go. I also just got my Jeep last month and want to test it out. 2door Willys so not quite a Rubi, but much more off road equiped than a basic sport.

Did you exit via Switzer Dam? That has quite a bit of pucker factor in snow and ice.

As Glenn said its a great place to learn. With no snow and ice the trail is easy and scenic. There are two spots that will give you a bit of a challenge (you can bypass one) but we've taken many stock jeeps and never lost one. lol

This is the end goal.

It's an easy trail. If you find it fun and want to try the more challenging trails then head to Rausch Creek. Both me and Glenn took their Jeeping course and it is well worth the money.

My next trip will be Rausch Creek, probably in May, if I can find anyone to go. They don't let you go alone.

Really hope you can make it. Would love to see this animal on the trail. We once had a raptor in the group, so I'm sure you'd be fine.

Exactly. It was a great ride. I had never seen the trail before and had a brand new JKURX I was trying out on it. Running solo I took it very slow but nothing bad. To be honest the only thing that have me any pause was the one hill climb. Actually locked up for that one and crawled right up it. Without I was sliding back a bit. Great day though!

Well I didnt buy my Jeep to be a mall crawler, so I'm definitely looking to learn both off roading and wrenching. So count me in, depending on the weekend.

Should have my recovery bumper by then too... Hopefull in the next week or two.

Is that my black Rubicon next to yours? Pretty sure I was on that trip with you and Reaper.

Yep. That was the last time I went to flagpole. Didn't you take a bunch of pics?

Wow… can't believe that was the last time you went up that trail!

Yeah, I have a bunch of pics on my iPhone. I'd have to whip them out and compare… and it was easier just to ask.

Still hoping to go on the 26th.

Give me a grid or meeting spot in H'burg, or wherever (coming out of Richmond 64/81). I'll see what I can do. right now that day is wide open, but with my normal luck, something will come up as usual. I've only run this trail on motorcycle (see pic in the RVA thread, post #85).

Count me in, but luck will probably get the best of me, just cause I want to go.

Typical trip we leave Haymarket Sheetz 7:45 sharp, with an expected arrival between 9:15 an 9:30 at Harrisonburg Sheetz.
798 E Market St
Harrisonburg, VA 22801

Well firm up the plans as we get closer.

Ya spent the summer with trips to Butler PA, and Rausch Creek. Jeep broke after the last trip to Rausch Creek and the winter was to cold to be motivated to fix it. So this will be the first trip since about Sept of last year.

yeah.. was supposed to be on the Rausch trip… if you remember… one of my daughters went in the hospital the day before we were supposed to leave, so I had to bail. All is fine with her… just a fluke thing, thank goodness.

Now really disappointed that the Rubi is gone and I never made it to Rausch.

Best trail ride so far. Ripped a fender off(they snap back in). Hit every rock on the trail, including one that blew a tire out. Two weeks latter my clutch failed.

BTW, never had damage or problems on a flag pole trip.

Added a lift to hit less rocks. I guess I'll just have to find bigger rocks. Lol
