Agree. All I want to do is meet people and enjoy the trail.

Whoa there... I was simply letting him know that plenty of us will have CBs, so he'll have a chance to test/use his.

You can chill with that whole anti-NJ thing right about five minutes ago, and we can put this behind us. Deal?

I'm going on this ride for the same reasons you are.

Alright everyone chill, I think Dan didn't explain into detail and you took it the wrong way. Ill give you a quick explaination; Dan has attempted to attend nvjp rides but he was not allowed because he didn't have a CB. Also we have had a few people that came out with us and were very thankful that we allowed non Jeeps to attend a ride. I have already talked with jwilson about this and was informed y'all have a few bad bitter apples in your group. We have also came across a couple from your group that were the "type a personality and took it to the extreme. I'm not saying other groups don't as well, but we try to squash that before we even hit the trail.

.
I definitely concur about the airing down part. 24 psi seems to be the sweet spot for me. It's plush enough to do any of the northern GWNF forest roads and still enough pressure to handle decently on pavement. I ran for about 600 miles during my recent excursion at 24. Although I have a really nice pump I'll probably air back up in Hburg. There is a gas station there (Exxon, I think) where you can preset the desired air pressure and air back up for a buck. Definitely preferred to a 15-20 minute air up on at trails end when it's below freezin'.

Whoa, are we gonna have a Hells Angels/Pagans style rumble at Flagpole on our hands?

On that note, I am currently without spare (because I have only had mine for a few months, and didn't anticipate the whole "cost of 35-inch wheels and that they would have to have a swing away mount" thing), am I going to be screwed on these trails? They sound pretty tame from what I am reading here. If it's an issue for anyone, I'll bow out until I rectify the situation... I'm out more for an intro trail ride than I am for any hardcore wheeling/crawling, especially since I am bringing the young-ins...

LOL. I felt exactly the same during my first group trip to Flagpole. It's all good. I'll have my CB on channel 4, too. Maybe we can do a comms check and figure out what our actual range is.

I have some FRMS radios from my rock climbing days. I'll bring some extras. FRMS is nice, too.

You wont be screwed but is there any way you can put your spare in the back? If you need I will have a good bit of space in my Jeep you can put some stuff if you need. I would highly recommend bringing your spare, sad thing is I'm not worried about the trail, I'm concered about the 1 1/2 hour drive to harrisonburg.

I haven't bought one yet (it didn't come with one when I bought it in October). Wasn't really in a rush to get one until I figured out the whole mounting thing. I'd better get off to the accountant and get those taxes filed ASAP...

I'm coming with a few neighbors, so I'll talk to them and make sure I can get home just in case. I certainly wouldn't expect you to deal with me if my rig is rendered immobile. What concerns me more about the length of the drive there is the cost of fuel, and the paltry 11.5mpg I've been pulling with the thing

We will be meeting either at sheetz or close to it in haymarket. When we depart we will meet the group coming from Richmond around the sheetz in harrisonburg. I would recommend you fill up at minimum in harrisonburg. We will have plenty of fuel by the end of the trail, but we like to be prepared just in case.

I am performing a slight thread jack here...if anyone was denied going on a NVJA ride because of not having a CB, then that was wrong. They are only recommended equipment, not required. I really hope you won't sour on our whole group from a couple bad people. I'd invite anyone to come out to a trail ride or M&G I'm at, I think you will find we're a pretty good group. Heck Danrb or Reaper, if you come out I'll gladly buy you a beer if that helps.

Thread jack over...bummed I have to miss this ride to having travel to a large Navy ship for work.

No problems here from me j, as I stated we talked and you informed me of what's been happening.
That sucks you can't make it out though, bit we will get together on of these days and actually meet face to face and have that beer.

Sounds like a plan. If for some reason my plans change, I'll pop back in and join you guys.

Also didn't realize about Dan either, so I wanted to reach out to him as well, hence my temp thread jack.

Great! Looking forward to see if you've done anything new with your zombies. Kids were a little freaked last time, but I thought your jeep is setup real nice.

Putting in a CB this weekend. Wanna know if the shit you talk is better than the shit we talk. If so who knows maybe we can get Reaper on a CB, I did order a couple extra parts by accident.

lol... I'm pretty sure we'll all be talking the same shit! That said, we do need to keep it somewhat clean if there are any small kids within earshot of the CBs.

Yeah, I'll have my kids and wife in the rig on this one and will have the CB on. I don't have any other type of radio...

For those of you coming from the Fredericksburg area, shoot me a PM. I'll be facilitating the caraJeep from this area out West. I'm coordinating with Reaper on the meet-up of the Northern folks.

I should have a couple of FRS radios that we can use for the drive, etc. I might look into a CB eventually, but the spare tire comes first.

No doubt, been looking at them today. My wish list is about as long as it can get right now, and it is probably going on there as well. This is just my first real outing, and I haven't ever had the use for one in my life before now, so I will look into it a bit, check out others, and go from there. In the meantime, I'll make do with what I've already got from other sources. hehe

We still need to wait for the final schedule details from Reaper before we can solidify any secondary start points.

But I'm in West Springfield as well, so I'm sure we'll figure something out between now and then. Landmark may work, just not sure yet...

Begin thread jack:
Installing my CB was the first mod I made to my Jeep. There is an excellent sticky on WF about CBs and antennas. I went with a Cobra 75 WX ST and had Auto Outfitters in Manassas install it. I rarely pickup anyone on it while wheeling in the GWNF. I use it more for the weather radio. Make sure whatever you get has that. Bang for the buck is FRMS.
End thread jack.
