Hey guys planning on doing a run out to Flagpole if the weather holds out. Last time we wanted to make a run we got word from a group that was out there for 16 hours in the snow and ice. So if the weather doesn't look good, we will be going out to Peter's Mill Run / Tasker's Gap before they close for 3 months. Anyone interested in going?

Who'd be our winch? Glenn is still traveling? Sunday is Zombie Jeeps day off. Maybe we can get him to come with if we go Sunday.

By coincidence, I was planning on running the seasonal forest roads in the area this coming weekend anyway if they haven't closed them. I was in the northern part of the GWNF last weekend doing the same. It sounds like Flagpole is a different animal but trail conditions were good up 3100'. A little wet but no snow or ice.

man, wish you all were doing a Sunday trip! Kids' b-ball games on Saturday but otherwise I'd join up. BTW - you guys rock for organizing these things. Hopefully i'll join up one of these ventures!

of course the wife just reminds me that Sundays are out anytime soon. Let me know if plans change to Friday or Monday!

PS..have winch if that changes anyone's minds? :surrender:

Where we meeting and what time?

We are newbies with a stock JKU Sport and are definitely interested. We would be coming from Manassas. If the snows not bad over the next day this sounds like something we can do.

Although I do have step bars and a rear bumper to install Saturday...but that can wait :)

Spent last weekend driving at Rausch Creek. Pretty challenging. The stock JKU sports did great. Out of the Factory Jeeps are amazing.

This has been a good group, no silly rules. Even had a couple non jeeps come last time. We stop a lot, take pictures and talk. No one is in a hurry on these trips.

flagpole is stocker friendly you just have to pick the right lines. suspension wise I'm completely stock and I made it through with no problems (oh and was a newb as well) wish I could join you guys but won't be able to make it. make sure you have something to air down with the trail up to the mud flats is SUPER bouncy and your kidneys will thank you.

January 19th Schedule

Hey everyone!

Here are the details for our flagpole run on Saturday Jan 19th (NOVA Guys)

Schedule

10:00am Meet up at
Sheetz
15315 Washington Street
Haymarket, VA
(From DC get off on Route 15. Stoplight make a left. Sheetz will be less than a mile on the left side.)

10:30am Leave for Harrisonburg, Va (Route 33 West)

12:00pm Arrive in Harrisonburg, Va (Route 33 West)
Meet up with the guys coming from Richmond area.

12:30pm Leave Harrisonburg, heading for the trailhead. (Unsure of exact time to the trailhead, guessing about 30 mins)

Trailhead Arrival: From here we will make stops as needed (depending on conditions). I have called Harrisonburg district office for GWNF and the gentleman told me that we do not need a permit.

Stuff I recommend you bring for yourself and family, if they are coming:

-Food and Drinks
-Snow Boots (If you do not have snow boots I would bring and extra pair of socks and shoes)
-Two way radio (We will have a few people with radios, so at minimum we will have one leading the pack and one at the end of the pack)
-Camera / Video Camera if desired
-A blanket (in case we get stranded)
-Recovery Gear (A couple of guys have everything we would need, but from what I am told, you can never have to much recovery gear.)

I will update the current list of people that have said they are coming tomorrow morning when I read back through the forum.

For the Richmond guys, I am not sure how you want to work it out on your end. If anyone wants to take charge for your group coming up please let the guys know. We will be at the Sheetz in Harrisonburg, Va around 12pm. The address is:
798 East Market Street, Harrisonburg, VA

Who ever wants to take lead let me know so I can get you my cell phone number so you can call me if you encounter any issues.

This ride is open to anyone that wants to go, just let us know!
