Off Roading in VA

This may be a stupid question but I'm new to offroading so here goes. Is it illegal to drive on the trails by power lines in VA? Also does anyone know where I can drive offroad in Fredericksburg VA? The land I went on when I first got my Jeep 2 months ago has been sold and the new owner won't allow it

I believe it's generally legal, but alot of time the natural trail will go off of public land, and you'll actually be on private land.

For a legal place to go, try Shoe Creek. It's not an overly difficult place, but it's fun.

These are the only directions I could find

Outerbanks NC, Corolla Beach. I had a great time playing in the surf and soft sand. Although the salt on the Jeep accelerates rust spots where you don't expect them.

Ok, just talked to and Forest Ranger and found out that part of Shoe creek one of my favorite trail is privately owned. There my question does anyone know what part of Shoe Creek Trial in VA is private. Just trying to make sure I am doing the right thing and not trespassing

In Virginia the "power line trails" are considered illegal to ride on dpending on what property they run through. I work with law enforcement jurisdictions through out all of Virginia and have asked about this many times. Sometimes law enforcement jurisdictions in certain areas are lax about enforcing this but it is considered trespassing to be on these "power line trails". However on the flip side the hunting land I use has power line trails that run through the property it is not considered illegal for me to be on them because they run through the private property that I have permission to be on. I can get more in depth with this and how it rolls into "right of way" usage as well if anyone has more questions. Generally if you are riding down the road and pass a power line trail you aren't allowed to be on it. In my area they will hammer you pretty hard for being on these trails. If you get busted it can carry a 1,000.00 fine. Just wanted to let everyone know so they don't get in trouble.
