Covington or roanoke are your best options for hotels unless you like to camp and in that case the pines camp ground is a mile or two from the trail head.

Really if you are coming from Shoe Creek whether 460 through Lynchburg or 60 to 81 south I would suggest grabbing a hotel right here in Salem. There are a couple directly off 81 exit 141 that would put you right at about 45 min from the bottom of the trail. They are about 3 min from my house. If you need help or anything send me a PM and ill give you my cell.

I still need to decide if I will be here or be in VA beach for a beer festival. If enough people wanna meet I would stay here and run with with you guys.

Who else is thinking of running it on 5/12??

Kawa: Let me know if you are still going on Sunday. My buddy and I are able to go and we could meet up and roll up there together from Salem if that is where you decide to stay the night or pick a different location.

Weather is calling for 60 and 10-20 mph winds. The trail is on top of the ridge of the mountain so it is typically pretty windy. Skys should be clear though.

I will be meeting kawa001 at 8AM at Just the Right Gear bike shop on 311. If you and your dad want to get up a little early and meet up with us you are more than welcome.

With all the rain earlier in the week and the rain we got last night into today the trail I am sure will be muddy. There were many groups going to wheel it today so be prepared for the trail to be a little tore up and possibly slick.

And as long as it ain't as cold as last time we we're there, we went this past november and it was freezing it actually started snowing about halfway thru the trail.and hopefully someone that goes today will be able to post up the conditions and such, I'm sure it isn't as negotiable wet as it is dry, wet would prolly suck, so I'm sure it'll be an event

Sounds good. Which direction do you plan on going? We typically start on the 617 side and go up the mountain.

Maybe we will cross paths.

Um honestly id remember which road is which, last time we went in right at were the little camp ground is right off of the paved road and came out and had to drive down all the fire roads to get back to pavement, I'm not sure if that's up or down really

Well kawa should have a fun time with his set up, last time I went I had 4 inches of lift on 33 km2s and a front locker and managed to cruch the passenger side kick panel all to crap on the one rock in the middle of the trail, now I have 5.25 inches of lift 35s and lockers front and rear, and some rock sliders of course, so we will c what we can do with this set up. U and ur buddy should have no problem, I honestly wouldn't mind seeing his yj even though I'm a tj guy,

I think he will be fine. I did come down on a rock one time with the stock Rubi sliders and it didn't turn out very well.

My buddy and I go regularly since we live in Salem and it is the closest trail.

Ill have to post a picture of his YJ. Not much he can't do now.

You guys should just meet up with us! Let me know if you guys can make it.

Like I said, 8 AM at Just the Right Gear bike shop on 311. Takes us about 45 minutes to get to the trail head from there.

Should be a good with it being slightly wet. Hopefully no more showers today so it gets a little dry before tomorrow morning.

We had a pretty heavy rain about 6pm, didn't last but 30 min. Or so but it rained all moring till about 10am so us locals decided not to ride it this morning as we had originally planned. Tomorrow it will be cool on the mountain highs around 60 but little chance of rain.

Well we got to the trail around 1230 or one, and had a great time, took our time stopping off for photo ops and such and looking at the views and such, but it was deffinattly a lot better than last time I went since I changed the back axle, moved to 35s and locked the back, my homemade rocksliders got used on the rock that gave me my body damage the first time though, I went around it first cuz I didn't wanna mess with it, but then I said screw it y not, well I'm glad I had them cuz I deffinattly used them today, other than that all went well, me and my father in law actually let the ladies drive up one of the obstacles, which was kinda stressful and funny all at the same time,

CrushingNemo, thanks for some awesome wheeling yesterday. The jeep trail was everything I hoped it would be.

I was expecting a morass of mud from all the previous rain but the trail was in very good condition early Sunday morning. Slippery conditions weren't really an issue.

Potts 5/12/13

Well guys... Me, my buddy and Kawa001 met up as you can see by Kawa's post yesterday and did the trail. This was the best experience I have had up there so far since we had the entire day to play! Trail conditions were perfect after all the rain and I think it is safe to say we all had a great time!

Here are a couple pictures from one obstacle that I had never done due to fear from all the diff lube and parts I have seen laying around. Plus my buddy has always struggled on 37's and 40's in his YJ but somehow I made it look really easy!

That was some pretty precise wheeling on your part. My son had a blast riding in your buddy's rig.
