The normal trail is pretty difficult, but not killer, there are bypasses on all but 2 spots. With good spotters, you'll make it through without a hitch, one of the guys is out there this weekend with his stock jk with 33s and did no damage last time, however he did blow 2 tires (heavy foot and rocks don't go together) and there was a tie rod busted last time on a lifted WJ. Only recommendation I can give, take it slow and easy, and make sure someone has a winch, there is one spot half the club had to be winched up last time.

Thanks for the info. Be nice to get some reports on the trail when your guys come back in

I'll be sure to pass it along, I haven't gotten any texts to bring parts yet, so I think they might be ok this weekend lol

We were up there for the first time today. It was very very wet. At the suggestion of one of the ride leaders we turned back at the first major obstacle. Every rig we watched go up it struggled, about half had to be pulled up, and we heard the next obstacle was significantly harder. Neither the one we turned back at or the next one had a by pass. No one in the group broke anything going up the obstacle we turned back at. Hearing that their was some breaks later on sounds like we made the right choice given the conditions. I'd like to go back when it dry though.

At the point we turned back we saw a Tacoma in a group behind us come very close to rolling over.

Here is a picture I took of one of the rigs that didn't have to be pulled up the obstacle. It was a bit steeper than the picture makes it appear.

I was trying to figure that out also but cant tell from that angle. Ive been thru there many times and just recently with the district ranger who is over potts and i posted that info a few pages back. Now I was shown some pics on facebook today that looked like people were not on the trail. It is our job to tread lightly and stay on the marked trail. If its a trail it is marked clearly. Just because a road is off the side of the trail doesn't make it a part of the trail or a "bypass" unless it is marked. Red diamonds with black arrows indicate the legal trail! All bypasses and obstacles are clearly marked. Everything else is wilderness and strictly prohibited to vehilces.

I agree completely we don't need to give the tree huggers any reason to close any trails

This is the worse I have ever seen this section of trail and would assume it was pretty rough.

I know we were up there two weeks or so ago now. Even just slightly damp most all actual obstacles were tricky.

I too am not really sure where this is on the trail but wouldn't think it is 100% on the trail. I know I don't get that flexy through any part of the trail trail besides the 2 places with no obstacles.

Everyone stay safe up there. We had to rescue a guys Jeep Jan 1st from where he almost rolled it down the hill at the drop/wall or the first picture above. Wasn't pretty and could have been worse for him. In his words "I felt the Jeep almost roll as I was on 2 wheels as my daughter and wife watched from the trail".

If anyone has any questions or need a guide let me know. Me or my buddy could always try to go. Buddy being the guy with the YJ in Kawa's video.

I would say you guys should be fine as long as you have a locker or someone has a winch. I wouldn't try majority of the obstacles unless it is completely dry without lockers though.

I have done the trail with in my JKUR with a 2.5" lift and 3.5" lift. 3.5" makes it possible to play on obstacles without dragging anything for the most part. 2.5" would drag some frame and sliders more.

I was the one who posted the picture of the Tacoma on VOW. It was taken by a guy riding with me. I can with 100% certainly tell you this was on the trail. It was right at a point where a sign pointed right to the obstacle and left to the main trail. It fed into the other picture you shared (also one I posted). What it looked like to me from my point of view was the Tacoma went high left on the bank (still on the marked trail) causing his right side to drop away. We were taking pictures and then stopped because in an instant we thought he was going over. I don't think we were moving as we held our breath. That is why we didn't have any other pictures of him at that point. He was a good bit more leaned at the worst point than the picture shows. But kudos to him because he didn't panic, went slow, stopped, backed up, and picked a new line that didn't involve nearly flopping over.

This was my first trip out with the group and first time meeting everyone. But yes, I am on the FB page with everyone now. That F250 was a pretty amazing machine.

I absolutely want to go back when it is dry.

I think the picture is really just at an odd angle and makes it hard to judge where that is.

Either way this trail is by far the best thing in VA. Next time you guys come give us a heads up. Would love to meet you guys out there and wheel!

Agreed on the angle. I don't know what everyone calls the marked obstacles but I believe this was #4 as we made our way up.

Sounds great on connecting next time! Hoping some kind of a trip comes together around Sept.
