Potts Mountain Jeep Trail?

I was doing some web surfing and saw some pictures and video of Potts Mountain Jeep Trail, but I dont really know anything about it or where it is located exactly. Does anyone knows anything about it? Thanks.

I know its in Craig Co. I think up off rt 311. Not to sure tho. Im wanting to go sometime soon tho

The few pics that I have seen it looks pretty intense. I am not sure if they were choosing a more technical path, or if that is how it is the entire way. I am still in a stocker, not sure if it could handle that stuff yet

I would probably wait unless you don't mind tearing something up. Most people that go there that I know of run 35's if not 37's

Yea ive been told atleast 35s and have winch or lockers. Ive seen some videos of smaller tjs on 33s going threw.

Well hell yea lol better get that ripp for sure then you'll for sure need it with that kind of tire if you aren't engine swapping

That's true are you goin 5.13's or 5.38's? I still not sure I know imma try out the Yokohama geolander mt just not sure about 33's or 35's.33's make more sense an I won't have to spend any other money for new tire carrier, possible regear, an flat fenders bit we will see when its time for new tires lol

Hey SG, this sounds awesome. I'd be up for this if we can find someone who has done this before. I saw a post that 31"s would be the bare minimun to attempt this in. I have 31"s now and have no plans to upgrade but I'd still like to try this.

This trail is on the Nat Geo Trails Illustrated map #788. Not sure which end one typically starts on but the upper trailhead is at 37.635645,-80.051451 and the lower trailhead is at 37.599213,-80.154469. Looks to be about a 7.5 mile trail. Here is the Google Map link: Unknown road to Unknown road - Google Maps. Play this using the Google Map 3D setting. Pretty cool.

This is a seasonal trail that opens 4/1. Do you want to do it in mid-late April? The drive down is about 4.5-5 hours for me.

I would love to do it, but I need to do a few upgrades before trying. If everything goes right I will be able to get my lift and tires mid to end of april. I am currently running stock suspension with 31.5 highway tires (were on when I purchased the jeep). My tires have done surprisingly well for street tires, but I have no desire to put them to the test at a place like this. I am going to pick up a set of used tires on CL because I still cant decide between 33's and 35's dont want to dump a bunch of money into new tires just to find I should have chosen the other size. My bday is mid April and the wife says I can get my lift and tires for my present
In all reality an April trip is pushing it for me, but May should be doable

A close friend of mines, father is a offroad driving instructor, and he runs potts all the time with his daughter (my friend) . She took her stock at the time 4runner on 31s thru with no damage other then a license plate getting bent. It's really all in the spotter giving you a good line. You can defiantly make it thru on 31s. Just pic good lines. Armor and lockers are best to have but like I said you can make with out

hey guys, i live 15 mins from the trail head.. i dont go up there much becuase im bored with it really but thats because im right here i guess, but anyways yes you can run this with 33s but you better have a winch, or someone better.. for the most part its easy til the bypass and the overlook..the overlook is nasty.. theres a new trail cut to get passed the hard part but its not much better just diff lines to get up.. ive seen this over the winter but ive not tried it yet.. but if your wanting to try some stuff you better be locked least in the rear and have sliders..for the most part you can go thru it in less than 2 hour if ya dont play but you can make a day of it.. and if you got the balls you can try the ledge but most dont..i havet.. lol.. i seen stuff come off backwards before they closed off the rock garden at the bottom of the bypass..

I was thinking that it might be easier to drive off a rock than it would be to climb up one if our JKs where more akin to stock than to the Jeeps you posted. What direction is the "going down the rocks"?

I'm curious as to why a locker on the back is preferred to having the one on the front for this trail (or any trail)? This relevant to me because I just ordered a locker for the front. I chose to keep my OEM limited slip differential in the rear and focus on the front which had nothing.

Ive got a 4" lift with 33s and a winch however i am concerned about that nasty part cause i dont have lockers or a slip yoke eliminator yet. Id hate to break something cause mine is a daily driver.

well as long as your not givin it hell and bouncing all over the place you will be fine.. try it once and winch the rest..
