I'm planning on meeting at the Food Lion. I'm assuming it's the one on Callohill dr...that's the only one I found. And is there anything special I need to bring or is there anything I need to know being this is my first time?

That sounds like the right foodlion. I don't remember the street. Just bring a lunch or something to eat. When we leave foodlion and get to the trail we will stop and prep for the trails.(air down tires, unhook swaybars and stuff, )

If hunting season didn't start Saturday I'd love to go with you guys. Been going up Piney river and shoe creek for over 25 years and have always had a blast. Maybe next time. Btw, the store at the bottom of the mountain is in Lowesville Va.

No, for a hunting license. The income from them is used to manage our state multiuse wildlands, including forests, for use for the general public to hunt, fish, dispersed camp, horseback ride, hike, bird watch, or any similar or related activity (with permit as required), in many cases including driving fire roads in your jeep.

Joe Q. Public pays to maintain your national wildlands, along with revenue from park attendees, and they have similar function.

Some wildlands have special lists of dos and donts, like wildlife refuge areas. State or national parks are NOT multiuse areas. Check the usda/us forestry or va dept of forestry websites for more info.

You can also pay 20$ and get a permit to gather fallen firewood for personal use, I think its 5 cords per year. Best deal around, but you cant fell trees, they have to be down.

Hunters also cull the heard of white tail, and since the alleged extinction of the Eastern Cougar, this is vital to the maintanence of the forests, otherwise the deer overgraze the saplings and small growth, starving the forests into grasslands. My point? Thanks hunters, for giving me a great resource. And keep the chilli comin.

I mean there's not a lot of detail. Just google and that's probably easiest. That's how I found out about it in the first place

I hear ya.

Just curious where the head is, where the put out is, who owns it (state/fed/private easement) and how long it takes. I keep getting forums and videos on google, all potatoes no meat. Usually Mr Google tells me what I want, but that ian't the case today, apparently. But really just want to know where, I can find out the rest. I'm somewhat familiar with the area, north of 56 more-so, but Id be coming from Cub Crk Rd. if anybody can help me out, I was wanting to make a run, maybe even squeeze in one last campout before the cold gets here. I looked at my ATC rockfish to bearwallow map, I'm know I'm looking right at it but I'm not sure what access it is. Is it a forestry FR? #? Or just a jeep trail?

I know it's a pain when folks ask something seeming so google-able. So, thanks for any advice or direction.

Or I'll just tag along on the next ride and then I'll know...

Its national forest. The trail. There are trails off it that are private and posted. Ill try and find the coordinates. Theyre in here but towards the begining. It starts and ends in same spot. Its just one big loop. You can keep going I think and cone out somewhere else, never tried it and probably wont. I think ic you do the google maps and put in shoe creek it will give you the actual location

Forest rd 263. Thats the one, allegedly puts out on 56 right near the hatchery. Turns into 826 on the west side of the AT, about a mile before the crabtree falls trail (hiking). Mmmm, trout. Or so say my maps.
