Skyline Drive Meet & Greet, South or North bound Oct 27

Hey all.

So some other folks and I think it'd be neat to go tree watching, hiking, trail riding, whatever centered around a forum meet & greet picnic up on Skyline Drive in the Shenandoah National Park. We are thinking one group can caravan up from the southern entrance while another comes down from the north entrance.

What: Jeeper Meet & Greet, picnic, day-o-fun with other Jeepers

When: October 27th, last Saturday in October.

Where: um, SNP. Didnt you read that^? Oh, you mean where in the park. One of the central picnic areas, like South River, Lewis Mountain or Big Meadows. Share your thoughts.

Who: anybody who can read this and drive there with 15$ entrance fee, bum a ride, or walk (for free!). I guess you dont have to be able to read this if ya got friends or a fancy computer, but if your computer reads to you then your probably blind, so driving a Jeep is really a tough act.

Why: Cause it's about to be cold up there, and those trees will get wifey out of the house with ya! Besides, do ya really need a why to go drive down skyline drive?

Again, share any thoughts or where youre comin from. Im close to the 33 entrance, but will probably roll throuh the countryside and go up Afton Mtn to exit 99 on I-64, the Rockfish Gap entrance, and head North. It is 15$ to drive into Shenandoah National Park, that includes all occupants in one vehicle, 1 or 4. For 30$ you can get an anual pass. Post any questions or contact me.

I'm pretty sure the wifey and I would be able to make a trip down to Big Meadows... we already have a season pass. Just have to remember that there will be a ton of folks out on the drive so expect some traffic and crowds.

We'll probably actually drive down 340 to 211 and come up the back side to the drive and then ride down to Big Meadows if that's where folks want to try and meet at. I guess a meet time of around noon to 1pm -later?

Picnic... hiking get together sounds good to us.

Big meadows is about as middle as you can get. Excellent point about the crowds, meant to mention that. I would expect to do about 25mph average, meaning Big Meadows is about 30-45 min north of rte 33 entrance, 45-60 min south of the 211 entrance, up to 2+ hr from Front Royal and Rockfish Gap entrance stations.

I'd say pack a picnic lunch that's what we are planning on doing, but if we meet at Big Meadows there's a place to get a bite to eat if you not on a budget.

Oh and we are still for the 27th unless more folks want to do it sooner.

It seems so, as I just checked NOVAjeepers site and that is listed:

Oct 27 Fall Foliage ride (Flagpole Mound)

Here's the link to their event: http://novajeepers.net/index.php?topic=10833.0
