Time for some GWNF Exploring

I'm going for a 3 day drive exploring the northern George Washington National Forest this coming three day weekend, 9-11 Nov. I will be checking out the seasonal forest roads. This isn't a group ride but if you are interested let me know. So you know what you are getting into. This will be a high mileage event of about 500-800 miles. The last time I did this I burned 55 gallons of gas. I wheel from before sunrise to after sundown. Camping will be wherever we end up for the night. This would not be a suitable weekend for someone who needs to stop frequently. All roads can be done in a stock 4WD. Start time will be about 5 a.m. this Sat. Although this is a bit of a death march you will see some very nice scenery and explore roads that aren't open for much of the year. I usually do this kind of stuff solo but if you are like minded PM me.

Hey Vance. I'm still down. My clutch will be here this week, but at the pace I'm going I don't think I'll be done in time. Keep me in mind for any December trips.

Keep me posted. December trips: gonna make a trip up to Rausch. We are planning some deep snow wheeling trips up to Dolly Sods and Spruce Knob. I've ordered wheel spacers and am ordering snow chains soon.

Interesting weekend. I didn't go out all three days because of work. For those in the Northern VA area I recommend taking a trip out to Hwy 55 on the VA/WV border and making a run south down the Tuscarora/Countyline/Stateline trail. The gate is open for next few months. It's only a 3 mile trail but it's a nice trail and after you cross the power lines it gets a little technical. The leaves are pretty slippery and there's not much room for error when riding a razor back. My son picked a bad line and needed a winch back onto the trail on the way out. Be sure to turn around at the cairn.
