Am in the military and looking to move from SoCal to VA. I want to know what type of trails there are in the area. I will be in the Richmond area most likely. I prefer rock climbing and have a 07 TJ fully locked and upgraded with armor and ready for tough trails. I just don't want to bring this jeep out there if the trails won't suit it, I would sell this one and start a project out there. Thanks for the help!
Bob (if I may), you're not going to find that kind of rock garden out here. You will find trails with rocky portions in them, especially up in the mountains. Again, probably not what your used too. That said, if it were me, I would bring it. It will still get used.
You can be in the mountains (from Richmond) anywhere from 1.5-2.5 hrs. Pending on where you want to go, also plenty of camping up there.
Other places to check out and a few hrs. drive are:
Uwharrie national park down in North Carolina. Search, and look at pix to get an idea.. Rausch Creek Off Road Park up in PA.
Hope this helps a little.... Oh yeah, I hate mud my damn self. I try to avoid it like a disease.
4teen, JKU, SS (silver sport).
If I high-lite a word. it will take you to an actual working link. unlike the generic, this site spits out.
Potts mountain in new castle virginia is pretty good, Rausch creek would be a little drive, but a great spot so I've heard, never been but dying to go. Our jeep club goes all over the east coast to go rock crawling. Harlan Kentucky, winrock Tennessee and uwharrie. There's some good spots around the easy coast, virginia might not have as much as SoCal but I also think you should bring it. Keep us posted if you bring it, plan on doing a lot of wheeling this summer! Btw I live in Lynchburg, about 2.5 hours away from Richmond.
