Where to off road in VA

I live in Fredericksburg VA and was wondering if there is anywhere near here to go off road. There used to be a place called Sandy Ridge but it recently has closed. Is it illegal to drive on trails around power lines or access roads? If not does anyone know anywhere to go in this area? I got my TJ 2 months ago and haven't really been able to use it

hey tec, used to live in Fredericksburg, in the Ferry Farm area. Contact A-1 Speed & Custom (425 Chatham Heights Rd) guy there (I think it's the owner) has a red Wrangler that is usually parked out front. I stopped in one day and he was talking about places him & his buddies go wheeling at. Also you may want to try Pro Trucks (1101A Potomac Avenue) these guys specialize in 4x4 & do awesome work as A-1 is more of a speed shop. Great bunch of guys to talk to they can hook you up with just about anything you want. Good luck with the search for a play ground.

Hey man.. I am in the Richmond area in VA. I need some good places too! I found a great park to do it at but it's 3 hours away from Richmond. By the time I take my Jeep up there on the highway i'll be losing too much $$

If anyone has any good place please post them!

UPDATE: http://www.offroadatlas.com/

Found some great places here!

I'm from Fredericksburg and I usually make the trip to culpeper..but I found a small offroad playground to practice..it's by the expo center in central park right behind dirt parking lot for the events...follow the "truckload topsoil" signs...

It would be a bit of a drive but myself and most of the Jeepers I know go to George Washington National Forest. It is legal to ride on the trails up there. However they recently just closed off a lot of the trails off of rt. 33 and I believe that you now have to obtain a pass to wheel up there. They are like 15 dollars and you can get them at the ranger station up that way. If you have any questions let me know. You can also call the ranger station and they will mail you the pamphlets about the trails and the passes. If anyone else knows of any other spots I would love to find something closer to my area... Richmond, Petersburg... Hope to see you on the trails!

I went to the GW forest (near Taskers Gap) a couple weekends ago. The day pass was $5. The trails marked for jeeps where very boring. Would be good for a mild family ride. We just drove on the atv trails and it was decent. My friend had a stock 05' Rubi and made it everywhere.
