Hi, just figured I'd ask if anyone was in my area. I have a problem and I kinda need some help. I just got a Rubicon Unlimited with the Dual Top option and I doubt my wife's going to be strong enough to assist me with getting the hardtop off.

Normally, this wouldn't be a problem, but the softtop is still stowed in the vehicle and must be removed, according to the dealer information. This is my first Jeep, and despite reading instructions from the Owner's Manual (online), I'm just not sure how to remove the softtop. :nonono:

So anyway, if anyone is in the area and would like to lend a hand, I'm offering some free beer...well, money to go get beer. :)

Never heard of Durt Burg! :D Lots of "Burgs" in WV. Which "Burg" do you really live in? :D

Thanks for offering your help!

Great video!

I did manage to get everything situated; took it to the dealer and they got the softtop uninstalled from the trunk. Now, I only have the hardtop on it but I have a hoist on the way. Hopefully, I won't have any trouble getting the softtop back on! :thumb:

Martinsburg. Me and my friends have been affectionately calling it the durt burg since middle school or so when I moved here.

If you ever want to sell the soft top, let me know. I'm going to start looking on craigslist when I get some more funds.

Sounds like a great idea, but I guess I'll be watching everyone else drink the beer! The only beer I drink is Root Beer, and that's only once in a while. :D

It's too late to think. :D

I'm surprised I haven't seen your Jeep around, considering how close you live. As for me, just look for a Bright Silver Metallic Rubicon Unlimited. It's the only one in the area...that I've seen, anyway... :thumb:

I'll have ACE rails on by next week then I'm deciding on my next mod. Lift and wheels or bumpers.

Frederick has a small meet up the first Wednesday of every month. I went to the June meet but missed this month because of a friend's birthday celebration. That's done through Maryland Jeep Club. Element Offroad also does a meetup in Urbana. It may be a bit more regular.

Also ordered a CB today. I picked up a Cobra 78 LX and ordered a 3' Firestik Firefly with a quick disconnect mount and the other stuff I need to mount it from the rear tire carrier. I'll probably be rushing around Thursday night next week getting that installed as long as everything actually makes it to me in time.

One more in the area

I'm in Charles Town and I just joined the Jeep family. I'd be interested in meeting up with some Jeepers, not much of a mechanic myself, but I enjoy good beer, so there is that. Alto's on Rt. 45 has a good steak night on Wednesdays, $13 20 oz. NY strip and $5 pitchers....

Cool, welcome to the forum! :thumb:

I'm ordering a 2.5" Rock Krawler Flex lift either the end of this week or the beginning of the next. Have to order shocks and bumpstops too, but those should be acquired in about another 2-3 weeks, I'm hoping. After that it's wheels and tires, the ACE rear bumper with carrier, and front bumper. Then hopefully around tax time I'll have the money for the gearing.

I should be finished with the major stuff then. It sucks that it feels like if you buy one piece, you have to have the next for this whole thing. A lift with stock wheel and tires will look like garbage. I need a new carrier for my spare because the weight can pull the rivets out. A rear bumper with a stock front bumper will look off. 3.21 gears with 35's will really hamper my acceleration.

Modify one thing, ya always gotta modify something else. Just the name of the game.

I started looking into Rock Krawler stuff after reading some reviews on the AEV vs. Rock Krawler stuff. I was dead-set on AEV but now I'm leaning towards the Rock Krawler 2.5". I think it may have been you who told me the Rock Krawler stuff looked a lot beefier than the AEV stuff. It wasn't until then that I started really looking at stuff closely.

I ordered the RK 2.5 Flex. I'm going to end up with the 3.5 max travel eventually. The rear control arms turn it into the 2.5 max travel and 3.5 springs will lift it apparently. AEV's site says that most of the parts are different going from the 2.5 to 3.5.

Now I just need another $550 for shocks and bump stops.

I'm probably going to be moving in a couple of months and the weather will be getting cold by then, but I'll be at a place between Martinsburg and Shepherdstown that I can host a meet up at. That or we could pick a parking lot some where. I know all the kids with the compact sport cars like to hang out infront of Buffalo Wild Wings.

I've heard it's a night an day difference. On the advice from Jason @ Krawl Offroad (who I bought my Ace rails and lift from), I've decided to go with the Fox 2.0's. He says they all run them on their DD rigs and that they're good on road and off. They're a little more expensive than the Bilstiens, but not so much that it'll break the bank. They're not $200 each like the Fox with the piggy bag cartridges. I think they're about $115 each on most sites and Jason gave me a price of $160 shipped for all 4, so it's basically like free shipping with their "forum discount".

Their shipping isn't as fast as some places, but for the customer service and the prices, I'm going to stick with them unless I have to go elsewhere to find a part they don't carry.
