well if you go east on hwy 12 then make a left on 14th (right after the john deer place) then you go all the way down and theres a bunch of fun dirt roads and fields that get pretty fun. even better after it rains. they are more for the moderate jeeper who doesnt wana ruin their daily driver like me haha

where's the closest spot you gone around here?

I have tomorrow off so I might go up there and check out the area. I've only had my Jeep since June so I haven't looked around too much and I didn't want to go alone in case i get stuck in the middle of a field or something. There are some trails over by Pierre I would like to try out sometime, and an ORV park in Appleton, MN.

I know there are a lot of Jeeps in the Rapid area. We should set up some gatherings. Wish there were some other off road trails than just rocks. I am a mud/dirt guy not all crawling.

What do consider rock crawling? I was out there early sept. And hit some trails that were good. We went on camp 5 road area and that was the best one I found when I was out there. It does get a little rough but nothing where you have to craps i've 1 foot high rocks. For the most part most rocks that we did encourage her were about the size /smaller then your fist.

But if you haven't check the black hills national forest website has trail maps and you can get an annual pass to use the trails for $25. Im hoping to be back out there in the spring to do more trail riding. And I drive a stock 04 sport with 31in mud tires and it handled just fine.

I mean crawling where I get body damage or have modify jeep with rock sliders and such. I don't mind rough roads, mud , trees etc, just climbing over boulders is not what I want. My jeep is a daily driver and I need her.
I have the paper trail maps and will have to check out the website. I don't know where all the trails are located yet and I haven't gotten the trail pass yet.
I have a 11 JKU Sahara, stock so I am not too worried about it handling, just don't wanna break her.

I hear ya. There is a jeep/offload club out in the hills to you can check out. Can't remember the name of it though. Ill have to bring up the gps file of the trails we did and ill let you know. They all were easy and smooth. They did get rough in spots but we had to turn around cuz the other guy that was with us didn't want rough and was worried about damaging something. But I thought that they would have been fine. None of the trails we were on were anywhere close to being rock crawling trails.

Southern Hills Checking in!!!

Howdy from Hot Springs!!! Looking to run some trails this year. 94 Wrangler mildy modded to be more capable off road... but not totally rocked out either... so moderate difficulty is fun for me. Did I mention that my rig has 156,000 miles on her and runs like an artificial heart? yeah, that reliable...

I live in Box Elder and have a '04 TJ with a 3" Zone lift and 33" GY Duratracs. In the military like I'm sure a lot of you are as well. Almost always down for some wheeling and wrenching.

Sioux Falls area here too! The "best" drives around are the dirt roads that miraculously aren't arrow straight. If anyone knows anything worth playing on let me know!!

Faulkton

Just picked up a new to us 2000 TJ here in Faulkton. 65K miles! We lived in Rapid from 03-08 and had an 87 YJ and a 2005 TJL. Loved them and are excited to have another TJ!
