Question head or gasket

I have been hearing alot about head cracks or gaskets going bad can anyone tell me what years to be careful of and what to look out for? 2002 wrangler tj 4.0 inline 6 automatic.

sounds like yours has an improved casting. i think it sounds worse than it is, that engine being all cast iron is really very durable, and lasts forever. the head gasket will leak small amounts of oil outside sometimes. usually on the right side, its really no big deal, the heads have been known to crack, but its not an epidemic, i'd say its rare when no overheating, and maintenance was done well.

don't worry about it, you have the best engine ever built, it will last forever.

Smile heads and gasket

thanks for your reply-I am new to jeep world and my son ask me about the problems and I told him I had joined a jeep wrangler forum and was getting alot of very good information, it is nice to know that this is out there for any kind of help or info once again thanks

Angry jeep

havent had for a month and on way home setting in street for stopped traffic some guy rear ended me at about 40 miles per hour-totaled out the car but the jeep shocked me all it did was scratch up the back bumper-maybe because of the 3 inch lift most of car went under jeep-trailer hitch realy tore up car but my baby looks ok to me what a relief to me. These jeeps must be tough!!!!

jeeps are very tough, there's also a frame rail right at the rear. glad to hear you're ok, and the other car is trashed.

i had a lady barely t bone my front bumper when she was cutting through a parking lot, the c channel front bumper went right through her minivan, her bumper fell off and did all kinds of damage, no scratch to the jeep.
